Huskies Remain Undefeated After Balanced 94-84 Win over NSU

ST. CLOUD, Minn. –The St. Cloud State University men’s basketball team remain a perfect 6-0 this season after outlasting Northern State University in a 94-84 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win Saturday night at Halenbeck Hall.

After shooting a blazing 67.8 percent from the field in the first half, five Huskies finished the night with double-digit scoring totals to remain 2-0 in the conference, while the Wolves lost their first game of the season to drop to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

The Wolves also had five players score in double figures, as senior Brett Putz (Forest City, Iowa) and junior Shaun Jensen (Spring Lake Park) both poured in 20 points a piece to help SCSU set a season in points.

Putz was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line, as the Huskies shot a season-high 89 percent from the charity stripe (33-37), while Jensen was 6-for-9 from the field and 8-for-10 from the line.

Sophomore Tim Bergstraser (St. Cloud) scored 16 points to go with six rebounds, while junior Theo Rothstein (St. Michael) scored 12 and freshman Connor Niehaus (Fremont, Neb.) scored a career-high 10 points to go with six rebounds and five assists.

The Huskies shot 50 percent from the field (27-54), while the Wolves nearly matched their total with a 48.4 percent night (30-62).

St. Cloud State will now be on a three-game NSIC road trip, as they first travel to Marshall to take on Southwest Minnesota State University at 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 9.
