Mallory Hoyt scored the Wildcats lone goal on the afternoon early in the 16th minute to lead Wayne State in a 1-0 non-conference win over Simpson College Thursday afternoon. The Wildcats improve to 3-3-1 while Simpson College is now 5-2-1 on the season.
Hoyt scored her second goal of the season from the top of the box off a crossing pass from Kayli Hopper at the 16:24 mark of the first half for the lone goal of the contest. Wayne State outshot Simpson 10-5 including 4-0 in shots on goal. Jessica Stringer recorded her third collegiate shutout in the net for the Wildcats and improved her record to 3-1-1 for the season. A physical game saw 21 total fouls called with 11 on the ‘Cats and 10 on the Storm. Kelly Lange, Kelsey Meyer and Christie Johnson recorded two shots apiece for WSC.
Wayne State will be at home again Sunday afternoon hosting travel partner Augustana College in a 1:00 p.m. Northern Sun Conference contest at the WSC Soccer Complex.
