St. Cloud, Minn. – A pair of double doubles by St. Cloud State sophomores Mike Rostampour (West St. Paul) and Tim Bergstraser (St. Cloud) led the #17 Huskies to a 77-56 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) win over #18 Minnesota State University Moorhead Saturday evening at Halenbeck Hall.
St. Cloud State improved to 15-2 overall and 11-2 in the NSIC. MSUM is 13-4 overall and 9-4 in the NSIC. The Huskies sit alone in second place in the NSIC standings.
With the win, the Huskies are 10-0 at home this season. St. Cloud State will go on the road to Wayne State and Augustana College next weekend.
Rostampour scored a career high 21 points and grabbed a career high 15 rebounds for his first double-double as a Husky.
Bergstraser notched his third double double of the season with an 11 point, 13 rebound performance.
Junior guard Shaun Jensen (Spring Lake Park) knocked down 16 points and dished out four assists.
The Huskies out rebounded the Dragons 47-33 and had 28 second half boards. SCSU shot 43.8 percent from the field
MSUM was led by Charlie Chapman with 15 points and Jake Lindfors with 14 points. The Dragons shot 35.2 percent from the field.
St. Cloud State started the game on an 8-2 run but MSUM responded to tie the game at 10-10 on a three-point basket by Andrew VanHavermaet. The Dragons took a three point lead, 15-12 on a Jake Lindfors jumper. A 13-5 Husky run gave the home team a 25-20 lead at 5:06 but the Dragons came within one point three times in the final minute and the Huskies led 31-30 at the half.
A pair of free throws by the Dragons Lindfors put MSUM ahead 40-37 at the 14:27 mark of the second half. A three point basket by SCSU’s Brett Putz (Forest City, Iowa) put the Huskies up 42-40 and ignited a 16-2 Husky run that gave the Huskies a 55-42 lead midway through the second half.
