MANKATO, Minn. - Sean Derry's win by fall at 184 pounds broke a 12-12 tie and helped No. 3-ranked Augustana top Minnesota State 18-15 Saturday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wrestling.
Augustana improves to 10-2 (2-1 NSIC), while MSU falls to 2-7 (0-2 NSIC).
Derry pinned MSU's Derek Hahn in three minutes in the ninth match of the night. His six points got rid of a 12-12 tie and gave the Vikings an 18-12 lead.
Augustana had built itself a 12-3 advantage after the first five bouts as Jason Jeremiason (133), Chism Fink (141), Nate Herda (149) and Marcus Edgington (157) all picked up wins by decision.
The Mavericks countered with three straight wins at 165, 174 and 184 pounds to tie the dual before Derry delivered his pin for Augustana.
MSU's Nathan Haynes beat Brian Schultz in the heavyweight contest.
The Vikings host Southwest Minnesota State and Northern State Friday and next Sunday.
