NSIC Offensive Player of the Year
#1 Rayon Simmons
(RB. 5-10, 210, Sr., University City, Mo. / Christian Brothers College)
Winona State University
Rayon Simmons has capped one of the best careers in Winona State history with one of the best seasons by any player to wear Warrior colors. Simmons set both a Winona State and NSIC record with 1,586 rushing yards on the season while scoring 18 touchdowns. Simmons is averaging 144 yards per game on the ground, recording eight games of at least 100 yards and six games of 175 yards or more. He has also caught 29 passes for 292 yards and two more scores. Simmons also set the Winona State and NSIC career rushing records this season. The senior has rushed for 5,058 yards in his Warrior career and has gained a league record 4,805 rushing yards in NSIC contests.
NSIC Defensive Player of the Year
#91 Richard Daniel
(DE, 6-2, 225, Sr., Papillion, Neb. / Papillion Lavista HS)
Wayne State College
Richard Daniel was a dominant force for the Wildcat defense again this season ranking in the top five in four major defensive categories. He led the NSIC in fumbles forced with six, tied for third in fumbles recovered with three and was fourth in sacks with eight for 40 yards and tied for fifth in tackles for loss with 14.5 for 65 yards. Daniel ranked fourth on the Wildcat team in tackles this season with 59 and also had two blocked kicks, eight quarterback hurries and two pass breakups while finishing his Wildcat career ranked fifth all-time in sacks with 28.
NSIC Offensive Newcomer of the Year
# 1 Charlie Davidson
(RB, 6-1, 210, Jr., Wheaton, Ill. / College of Dupage)
Wayne State College
Charlie Davidson became a workhorse for the Wildcats in the backfield during the second half of the season and turned into one of the top rushers in the NSIC. Davidson started the season splitting time with senior running back Nick Pulscher, but following an injury to Pulscher Davidson turned into the top back for the Wildcat offense. He finished the season with 870 yards on 178 carries with seven touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. His 79.1 yards per game overall ranked sixth in the NSIC while his 98.2 yards per contest in South Division play was second-best among South Division backs. He had three straight weeks of 100 yard games, rushing for 149 at Concordia-St. Paul, 146 vs. Minnesota State and a season-high 150 yards on 36 carries at Upper Iowa.
NSIC Defensive Newcomer of the Year
#20 Shea DeJong
(DB, 5-8, 170, Fr. , Sioux Falls, S.D. / Sioux Falls Roosevelt)
Minnesota State University Moorhead
Shea DeJong made an immediate impact as a true freshman at safety for MSU Moorhead. He led the team -- and NSIC with 121 tackles. He also led the NSIC in tackles per game (11.0) and solo tackles (63). He had double-digit tackles in eight games this season, including a career-high 17 against Minnesota State. DeJong finished with six tackles for loss, two interceptions, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and seven pass breakups. Entering the final week of the season DeJong was ranked 11th in the NCAA Division II in tackles per game.
NSIC Coach of the Year
Aaron Keen
Minnesota State University, Mankato
Minnesota State acting head coach Aaron Keen is in his second season with the program. This past season, Keen guided the Mavericks to an 11-0 record, the first 11-0 regular season record in program and league history, claiming the NSIC Regular Season and South Division titles. The South Division crown was the Mavericks fourth in the past five years and the regular season crown marked the second year MSU has claimed at least a share of the crown, the 16th NSIC or NIC title and the 18th in program history.
