Ballard Wins 400th Game In 87-54 Warrior Victory Over Grand View

WINONA, Minn. – Head coach Scott Ballard earned his 400th career victory as the Winona State women’s basketball team was lights-out from deep in an 87-54 win over Grand View.

The Warriors were 15-of-24 from behind the 3-point line, with Kelsey Andrist and Becca Friestleben each hitting five shots from deep. Friestleben was a perfect 5-of-5 from three to score 19 points. Andrist and Wolff each scored 20 as WSU opened up an early lead and never looked back.

Up by three early, the Warriors went on 17-5 run to hold a 15 point lead by the 11 minute mark of the first half. A pair of Kate Hartman free throws with under a minute to play in the half put the Warriors up 20, 40-20, with the WSU advantage never dropping below 20 points the rest of the way.

Wolff added eight assists to her 20 points, going 7-of-10 from the field. Andrist was 7-of-11 on the day while hitting a career-high five of six 3-point attempts. Michelle Tobin led all players with ten rebounds while Hartman came off the bench to record seven points and seven rebounds.

Winona State has made 15 shots from behind the 3-point line in each of its last two games. Friestleben is 12-of-15 from long range in that same span and has 16 3-pointers through three games this year.

Ballard has recorded a 400-235 record in his 23 seasons of coaching at the NCAA Division II level. Ballard is 131-102 in his nine years at Winona State.

The Warriors will travel to Alaska for three games next week, beginning with a matchup against Anderson on Nov. 22.
