WINONA, Minn. – Katie Froehle and Kayla Uhlenhake recorded double-doubles as the Winona State volleyball team was able to outlast No. 20 Minnesota State, 3-2, for its second win over a ranked opponent this season.

Froehle had 16 kills and 23 digs while Uhlenhake handed out 31 assists and added 12 digs in the winning effort.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with the Warriors winning the first set 25-23. Minnesota State came back to take the second set 25-22, but WSU earned a 25-22 win in the third set to go back up.
The Warriors closed out the match with a 15-12 victory in the fifth set, breaking an 11-11 tie with four of the next five points. Rachel Polland had kills on back-to-back plays, with Bekah Saugen adding a service ace to come within one point of closing out the match. Polland recorded one final kill on the next play to send WSU to the upset win.
The victory was the second over a ranked team by the Warriors this season, who also beat No. 18 Wayne State on Sept. 14. WSU has four victories over ranked teams in the last two years.
Polland led the Warriors with 17 kills while hitting .351. Kate Horihan added 12 kills and a .348 hitting percentage while also recording seven block assists. Maggie Finkel made 21 digs in the WSU defensive effort while Saugen had 17. Kaley Jacobson had 22 assists in the match as well for the Warriors.
Winona State is now 19-9 overall and 11-7 in NSIC play. The team will close its regular season next weekend with home matchups against Augustana and Wayne State.
