WINONA, Minn. – Michelle McDonald and Abby Busch combined for 40 points on 13-of-17 shooting as the Warriors earned a 79-47 victory over MSU Moorhead Friday in McCown Gymnasium.
McDonald led all scorers with 21 points and added nine rebounds, falling one board short of her fifth consecutive double-double. The WSU senior also moved into seventh on WSU’s all-time scoring list with 1,306 career points.
Busch added 19 points and seven rebounds while Beth Alberson hit four 3-pointers on her way to 12. Winona State outrebounded MSU Moorhead by ten, 39-29.
McDonald led the Warriors on a late charge, scoring nine consecutive points to help stake WSU to a 36-27 halftime advantage. McDonald converted a traditional three-point play and added back-to-back treys in a quick 9-0 WSU run.
The second half started the way the first ended, with a 10-2 run the second’s opening 3:39. Winona State steadily built its advantage until it reached the final winning margin of 32.
The win moves the Warriors to 16-9 overall and 11-8 in NSIC play. WSU is now in sole possession of fifth place in the NSIC standings.
Winona State will play its final regular season home game of the season Saturday when it hosts Minnesota, Crookston at 5 pm.
