NSIC/Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament Update

2/23/2012 12:20:41 PM

Burnsville, Minn. – The top four teams for the NSIC / Sanford Health Men’s Basketball Tournament have been determined with St. Cloud State, MSU Moorhead, Bemidji State and Southwest Minnesota State all hosting first round games at 7:00 p.m. next Wednesday, February 29th. The NSIC Office has determined that none of these teams can drop out of the top four in the final NSIC Men’s Basketball Standings after games played this weekend. First round matchups will be announced Saturday night following the conclusion of the NSIC regular season games. Go to www.NorthernSun.org Saturday night for updated brackets.

Augustana, Winona State and Minnesota Duluth have all punched their ticket to the tournament and will be on the road in the first round. Northern State controls its own destiny; a win at U-Mary on Saturday and the Wolves are the number eight seed. A Wolves loss and a Wayne State sweep at Minnesota, Crookston and MSU Moorhead this weekend would tie the two teams at 9-13. The two teams split wins this season, so the NSIC point system will be used to determine who the eighth seed is.
The NSIC / Sanford Health Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament Semifinals and Championships will be played at Taylor Center in Rochester, Minn. on Sat.-Sun., March 3-4. The NSIC will be working with the Rochester Amateur Sports Commission to host the two-day event.
