Huskies Open Season With Twinbill Sweep

Minneapolis, Minn. - The St. Cloud State baseball team opened the 2012 season on Feb. 4 with a pair of victories over Judson University on Feb. 4 at the Metrodome in Minneapolis. The Huskies won game one by a 13-0 tally and then posted an 11-2 win in game two over Judson.

The two victories move SCSU's season record to 2-0 on the new season.

In game one, Scott Lieser was the winning pitcher with a four inning start that included one hit allowed and one strikeout. Logan Birr, Jamie Kissell and Scott Sanderson all added relief work in the win as the Huskies combined for four strikeouts and just four hits allowed in the game.

At the plate, Phil Imholte had three hits and two RBIs and Steve Rindelaub also had three hits, two RBIs and two runs to pace the Huskies. Sean Borman also had two hits in the game for SCSU. Overall, SCSU charted 13 hits, 13 runs and nine RBIs in the game.

To complete the night at the Dome, Borman collected three hits (including two doubles) and four RBIs in the nightcap for SCSU. Eric Loxtercamp posted two RBIs and two hits in the game, while Travis Enger and Imholte each had two RBIs in the game. Overall, SCSU had 12 hits, 11 RBIs and 11 runs in the game.

Kyle Fischer was the pitcher of record with two innings of work, while relief innings were pitched for the Huskies by Austan Bosch, Nick Maiers, Shawn Riesgraf, Garrett Anderson and Chris Kubitz. Overall, SCSU combined for eight strikeouts and five hits allowed.

"We had great pitching efforts from our entire staff and their effort was reflected by a big day at the plate for the Husky offense" SCSU coach Pat Dolan said. "This was an excellent way to start our season, and it is really nice to be back in the Metrodome this year and get the ball rolling on a new year."

The Huskies will return to the Dome on Feb. 11 with an 8 p.m. doubleheader at the Metrodome against Mary.
