WINONA, Minn. – The No. 8 ranked St. Cloud State University baseball team posted closed out the first weekend of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference regular season with a pair of wins behind two stellar starting pitching performances Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore Kyle Fischer (New Ulm) went all seven innings in a 10-2 game-one win before junior Shawn Riesgraf (Chaska) pitched all nine innings in a 6-1 game two win to help the Huskies improve to 18-5 overall this season, while going 3-1 in the NSIC.
Fischer gave up just the two runs on two hits, while striking out eight batters before Riesgraf pitched the first nine-inning complete game of the year for SCSU after giving up just one run on seven hits while striking out six batters in the 2:25 minute game.
Offensively in game one, junior Sean Borman (Minnetonka) went 4-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored for the Huskies and junior Brian Hansen (Cold Spring) went 3-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.
The Huskies put together a total of 14 hits in game two as senior Joey Benke (Roseau) led SCSU in game two with a 2-for-5 game. He drove in two runs and scored another as junior Steve Rindelaub (St. Cloud) went 1-for-3 and also scored a run and drove in two for the Huskies.
St. Cloud State will now remain on the road next weekend when they take on Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb. next Saturday and Sunday at noon.
