SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana won its third-straight Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference regular-season title with an 8-1 win over St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings, who are 16-3 overall, finish conference action a perfect 10-0. Augustana has now won 31-straight NSIC matches, having gone unbeaten over the last three seasons.
No. 3 Hannah Gebauer grinded out a three-set (3-6, 6-4, 6-1) victory over Catalina Franca to earn Augustan’s fifth point in the match, securing the Vikings’ win.
Augustana kicked off the match capturing two out of the three doubles points. On the top court, Katie Jesperson and Michelle Wadas rattled off an 8-2 win over Cassandra Brown and Katie Kotschevan. Gebauer and Heather Sullivan downed Franca and Tanya Halloran 8-4 at No. 2. SCSU's Kayla Buckley and Tori Marlton came back from a deficit on the third court to beat Adrienne Conley and Gabbrielle Kachena 8-6.
No. 1 Jesperson and No. 2 Wadas earned Augustana’s third and fourth points of the dual, respectively. Jesperson notched a 6-0, 6-2 win over Brown and Wadas defeated Kotschevan 6-1, 6-0.
After Sullivan fought for a 7-6 (7-5) first-set win, she cruised to a 6-2 victory in the second set at No. 4.
The title marks Augustana’s 17th overall NSIC crown since joining the league in 2008-09. It’s also Augustana’s third conference title this season—men’s and women’s cross country earned the first and second championships for the Vikings.
