No. 47 Augustana blanks Minnesota State

– No. 47 Augustana clinched at least a share of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference title with its 9-0 sweep over Minnesota State Wednesday evening.

The Vikings improve to 15-3 overall and remain perfect in conference action at 9-0.  Minnesota State drops to 7-9 (5-3 NSIC).

On the first and second doubles courts, the Vikings won by identical scores of 8-1. No. 1 Katie Jesperson and Michelle Wadas downed Kathryn Gavin and Shealyn Bakke, while No. 2 Heather Sullivan and Hannah Gebauer rolled over Brandi Dohmen and Hailey Robb.

The pair of Gabrielle Kachena and Adrienne Conley defeated Laura May and Joey Bosch 8-5 at No. 3.

With a 3-0 lead heading into singles action, Augustana kept its momentum strong with the Mavericks only winning one game each against Liz Lewis and Hannah Gebauer. No. 3 Gebauer topped Bosch 6-1, 6-0 and on the fifth court, Lewis beat May 6-0, 6-1.

On the top singles court, Jesperson earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Gavin and No. 2 Wadas proved to be too much for Dohmen with a 6-1, 6-2 win.

Freshmen Sullivan and Jenna Helleberg also helped the Vikings blank MSU with wins at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively. Sullivan cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Shealyn Bakke and Helleberg pulled out a 7-6 (7-5)  6-1 win over Robb. 

Augustana finishes conference action at home on April 14 against St. Cloud State.
