ROCHESTER, Minn. - Despite giving up eight runs early, No. 2 seeded Augustana powered its way to a 16-8 victory over No. 7 seed Northern State at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament on Thursday.

Augustana broke the school record for home runs in a game after hitting eight blasts. The previous record was six, which the Vikings managed twice in 2011. Theresa McMahon had three of those home runs, which tied a single-game record set by Kelsey Kalkman in 2011.

McMahon finished the game 3 for 4 with three home runs, four RBIs and a walk while Jenelle Trautmann added a 4 for 5 performance that included two home runs, a double and three RBIs.

Augustana struggled through the first two innings as Trautmann gave up three runs on four hits before being replaced by Chelsey Durland, who gave up another five runs on seven hits.

The Vikings got on the board in the bottom of the second when Spanton singled and moved to second on an error by the left fielder. She then took third on Kelsey Kalkman's fly ball out and crossed the plate when Chelsi Winskowski reached on an error by the second baseman.

Augustana added another run in the second when McMahon led off with a walk and moved to third on two wild pitches. Elizabeth Murray picked up the RBI when she hit a sacrifice fly into left that brought McMahon home.

After Durland settled in and shut the Wolves down in the third and fourth, Augustana put together a five-run inning that began with a single by Winskowski. After Matley Jones grounded out and Winskowski moved to second, Taylor Kapsch hit her fourth home run of the season over the right center fence. McMahon followed suit immediately after with a shot that cleared the left field fence, putting the score at 8-5. After Murray walked with two outs, Trautmann singled and Spanton walked to load the bases. Kalkman, who left hit into a double play with the bases loaded the inning before, then drove a pitch into left center for a single that scored two.

The fireworks for the Vikings started again in the fifth when McMahon homered with one out to tie the game at eight. Murray then walked with two outs and came home on Trautmann's second home run of the contest, giving the Vikings their first lead of the day.

Ashley Meyer threw the top of the sixth for Augustana and earned the save when the Vikings put the game away in the bottom half.

Jones led off the inning with a home run and was followed by Kapsch's second hit of the game, a single up the middle. McMahon then made history when she struck a ball that caromed off the scoreboard in center field for her third home run. Brown singled in her next at-bat and Murray hit a two-run home run to put the Vikings up 15-8. Trautmann ended the game early when she took a 3-2 pitch over the right field wall.

Augustana will play the No. 6 seed Concordia University, St. Paul tomorrow at 11 a.m.
