NSIC Tennis Team Notes
Augustana
Augustana, which is 15-3 overall and 9-0 in conference action, took the week off from competition and will finish its regular season this weekend hosting two duals. The Vikings face St. Cloud State Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and Hastings (Neb.) Sunday at 10 a.m.
Bemidji State
The Bemidji State tennis team turns its focus to its last two contests of the 2012 regular season April 14 against Upper Iowa University and Southwest Minnesota State. The matches will be held in St. Cloud at Gold’s Gym at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.
University of Mary
After a week off, the U-Mary women’s tennis team closes out the 2012 season with two home matches. The Marauders host the University of Minnesota, Crookston on April 13 and Winona State University on April 14. After a winless season a year ago, the Marauders have posted three victories this season. Rachel Brown leads the Marauders in wins this season. The junior from Minot, ND, is 6-5 overall while playing mostly in the #6 singles slot.
Minnesota, Crookston
The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Tennis team closes out the 2012 season on Friday, April13 and Saturday, April 14 when they travel to Bismarck, N.D. for a pair of NSIC matches against the University of Mary and Minnesota State University. Matches begin at 6 p.m. and 1 p.m. respectively. The Golden Eagles have an overall record of 2-8 and NSIC record of 1-7.
Minnesota Duluth
The Bulldogs are back on the road on April 14 as they travel to Moorhead, Minn. to face NSIC challenger Minnesota State University-Moorhead. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m
Minnesota State
Minnesota State owns a 9-9 record overall and is 7-3 in the NSIC…The Mavericks are idle until April 12 when it travels to St. Benedict…Minnesota State owns a 55-53 (.509) mark in singles competition and is 41-19 (.683) in league singles matches…In doubles play, MSU is 25-29 overall (.463) and 19-11 (.633) in conference matches…Freshman Shealyn Bakke leads MSU in wins with an 11-7 record at the #4 position.
MSU Moorhead
The Dragons were idle last week. They will take on Concordia-Moorhead and Minnesota Duluth on April 14th in Moorhead, Minn.
Southwest Minnesota State
The Mustangs were idle last week. They will close our their season on April 14-15 as they travel to St. Cloud to take on Bemidji State and Upper Iowa. They return home on the 15th to take on Sioux Falls.
St. Cloud State
The Huskies currently own a 13-11 record this season with a 6-2 mark in NSIC play under the direction of head coach Jerry Anderson…Anderson is in his 7th season as head coach of the SCSU women’s team this spring and he owns a 131-64 career record. Anderson also serves as head coach of the SCSU men’s tennis team…Catarina Franca, a resident of Brazil, leads the Huskies this spring in singles play with a 15-5 record. Katie Kotschevar and partner Cassandra Brown lead the club in doubles play with a 16-8 record at number one doubles in 2012…SCSU will enjoy a schedule break before returning to action on April 14 with a pair of matches in Sioux Falls against Augustana and Hastings.
Upper Iowa
The Peacocks (4-2 NSIC) were idle last week and will play their final four conference duals in Sartell, Minn. on Saturday and Sunday, April 14-15. Upper Iowa will face Bemidji State University and Southwest Minnesota State University on Saturday and wrap up the regular season against St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Winona State
Erin Kappers, Jr., Rochester, Minn. (Mayo) posted a 2-0 record as Winona State stepped out of conference to beat Wisconsin-La Crosse 5-4 this week in Winona. Kappers teamed with Leah Dahl to claim an 8-3 doubles victory and won her singles match 6-1, 6-0. Kappers remains undefeated on the season in both singles and doubles play.
