MANKATO, Minn. - Casey Jacobson worked 9.0 innings on the mound for No. 5-seeded Augustana and gave up just one unearned run to help the Vikings advance to the next round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament with a 3-2 victory over No. 6-seeded Minnesota Duluth Thursday afternoon at Franklin Rodgers Park.
Augustana improves to 31-20 overall, while the Bulldogs end their season with a 24-27 mark.
The Vikings will play the loser of Thursday night's game between No. 2-seeded St. Cloud State and No. 4-seeded Winona State at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
Jacobson moves to 5-5 on the season. He had six strikeouts and allowed nine hits.
Leading Augustana offensively on the day was Derek Hansen, who finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
The Vikings got on the board in the first inning. With two outs, David Borchardt drilled a double to left field and Hansen brought Borchardt home off a single to right field.
Toney Viger gave Augustana a 2-0 lead with a homer to left field in the second inning.
UMD's Orry Engebretsen tacked on an unearned run in the bottom of the 7th, but the Bulldogs missed their opportunity to take the lead in the inning by leaving the bases loaded.
Borchardt doubled again in the eighth inning and Hansen drove him in with another single to earn his 37th RBI of the season.
Augustana is now 3-5 all-time in the NSIC Tournament.
