Bismarck, N.D. - The 2012 NSIC Outdoor Track & Field Championships saw 13 records fall in the 42 events taking place Friday and Saturday at the Community Bowl.  U-Mary took home the women's title while Minnesota State was victorious on the men's side. 

The Minnesota State men’s track and field team claimed their third Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Track and Field title in the past four seasons as they racked up 212 points to close the championships. The victory for Minnesota State also marks the third time in the last four years that it has swept both the indoor and outdoor crowns.

Competing at home for a conference championship for the first time, the University of Mary women’s track and field team dominated the 2012 Northern Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Marauders won their fourth NSIC title in six years by 84.5 points over Winona State University. The 10th-ranked Marauders rolled up 200.5 points while the Warriors compiled 116. Augustana closed with 95 points and Wayne State College had 94 to place fourth.

Wayne State's Paige Pollard was the women's high point performer while Derek Bredy and Laquone Robinson from MSU Moorhead tied for the men's high point performer.

Pollard as the high point scorer of the meet in the women's division to lead the Wildcats. She won the heptathlon with 4,923 points and set a new NSIC meet record Saturday to win the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:00.14. She also placed third in the long jump and was seventh in the 100 meter hurdles.

Bredy won the 100m dash (10.46) and the triple jump (48’6.75”). He was second in the 200m dash (21.51) and the long jump (23’9”). He also ran a leg on the winning 4X100m relay team (40.79),

Robinson broke his own record in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.13 and the won the 400m hurdles (53.09). He won the long jump (23’11.75”) and was third in the triple jump (47’7”). Both Bredy and Robinson ran a leg on the winning 4X100m relay team (40.79),

Augustana’s Aduo Omot and Tom Karbo collected titles for the Viking men on the final day of the 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Outdoor Championships to lead the team to a third-place finish with 115 points. Kyle Blakeslee and Runa Falch led the charge for the Viking women by winning a title apiece to help Augustana place third with 95 points at the two-day championships held at the Bismarck Community Bowl.

Led by a record-breaking performance by its 4x100-meter relay team, the Bemidji State University women’s track and field team finished 11th at the 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Outdoor Championships Saturday at Community Bowl in Bismarck, N.D. BSU’s quartet of Tia Lindberg (Fr., Chisholm, Minn.), Michelle Ohman (Sr., Prior Lake, Minn.), Ashley Larva (Jr., Floodwood, Minn.) and Taylor Sautbine (Jr., Tamarack, Minn.) bettered a record set just a year ago, placing seventh in the relay with a time of 48.75 seconds.

The St. Cloud State men’s track and field team placed sixth and the women’s team ninth at the 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Outdoor Championship held at the Bismarck Community Bowl Friday and Saturday. The Husky men posted 45 points in the championship and Minnesota State University won the team title. On the women’s side the University of Mary won the championship and the Huskies posted 30 points. The SCSU women were led by a pair of third place finishes by sophomore Felicia Carlson (Beloit, Wis.) and senior Roshane Boreland (St. Ann, Jamiaca). Carlson ran the 100 meters in 12.15 for her third place finish. Boreland was third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:11.59.

Wayne State senior Nicole Brungardt was also a conference champion in two events, winning the 100 and 200 meter dashes while setting new school records in both events. The Norfolk Catholic graduate won the 100 in 11.81 seconds, an NCAA provisional mark, and also captured the 200 meter dash Saturday in 24.40 seconds to break her own school record. Another highlight on Saturday came from Sara Wells placing second in the shot put with an NCAA provisional mark of 46' 10”.

Winona State’s Alyssa Rausch claimed the shot put individual title Saturday, adding to Michelle Potter’s victory in the hammer throw Friday. Winona State scored 116 points as a team to place second, trailing only conference champion Mary. The Warriors were a comfortable 11 points ahead of third place Augustana. Rausch won the shot put with a throw of 47’ 10” (14.58 meters) while teammate Paige Garriga placed sixth in the event. Both throws were NCAA Division II Outdoor Championship provisional qualifying marks. Four Warriors achieved provisional qualifying marks in the discus with Caitie Zepczyk (second), Shanai Guider (third), Rausch (fourth) and Elisa Moenkedick (fifth) giving WSU four of the top five finishers in the event.
