The Peacocks continue to build on their win streak in the NSIC. Upper Iowa won their fourth straight Northern Sun match tonight against the Beavers of Bemidji State capping off their Homecoming weekend with a 3-1 victory. With the win, UIU improves to 10-6 overall and 4-3 in the NSIC, while BSU falls to 3-11 and 1-6 in the conference.
After controlling the first two sets (25-21, 25-14), Upper Iowa’s offense went south in the third set as the home team recorded 10 kills and 10 errors and fell 25-23. The Peacocks returned to form in the fourth set posting their highest kill tally of the night with 17. UIU held off a late rally by the Beavers to claim the final set 25-23 and win the match.
Setting up the attack for the Peacocks was sophomore
Hailey Brown, who dished out 38 assist. Junior
Melanie Behnke recorded 17 kills on the night, followed by freshman
Jennifer Mundt with 13 and senior
Kayla Wagner with 11. On the defensive side, senior
Danielle Gernes dug up 15 balls, while sophomore
Amanda Weiss had 14 digs of her own.
The next action for the Peacocks will be Friday October 5
th, at 7:00PM, as they travel to Marshall, Minnesota to take on the #2 Mustangs of Southwest Minnesota State for a NSIC battle. Upper Iowa will then close out their weekend match with the newest member of the Northern Sun, Sioux Falls Cougars, for an afternoon 2:00PM match.
