FAYETTE, Iowa – Clayton Vette paced a balanced Warrior effort as the Winona State men’s basketball team beat Upper Iowa 68-53 Tuesday in Fayette.
Vette scored 16 points as four WSU players scored in double figures, with the Warriors moving their win streak to eight games in the process.

Grant Johnson added 15 points, including seven points at the free throw line, while Caleb Palkert netted 12. Xavier Humphrey scored 11 points and tied a career-high with six rebounds to aid in the Warrior victory.
The Warriors took care of the basketball, giving up just eight turnovers on the game. WSU shot 43 percent from the field while also getting to the free throw line, making 15 of its 21 attempts from the charity stripe.
The Warriors started strong, opening up a 19-7 lead with 11:15 remaining in the first half. Upper Iowa didn’t go away, pulling to within three at the break. UIU used a 6-2 run in the half’s last three minutes to shave a seven point deficit to just three, 32-29.
Upper Iowa was able to tie the contest at 36 three minutes into the second half and was still within two with 11:04 remaining. The Warriors scored the next ten points to push their lead into double digits for the first time on the night. Upper Iowa would not get close than 11 points for the remainder of the game.
WSU is now 14-3 overall on the season and 8-2 in NSIC play.
Winona State will return to action on Friday when it hosts Bemidji State at 8 pm.
