(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) Women's Soccer team captured their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) victory and a rivalry trophy in the process. The Golden Eagles scored two first-half goals and held on for a 2-1 victory over Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) in the battle for the Highway 75 Rivalry Rock.
Delany McIntyre (So, M, Flin Flon, Manitoba/Sport and Recreation Management) recorded her first goal of the season at 11:53 when she was assisted by
Kelah Peterson (Jr, F, Bismarck, N.D./Elementary Education).
Kallie Gau (Fr, M, Monticello, Minn./Early Childhood Education) put UMC up 2-0 when she scored at 36:58. McIntyre added to her point total with the assist. The Dragons got as close as they would get at 70:54 when Molly Strong scored an unassisted goal to make the final score 2-1.
Lexie Gauger (Fr, GK, Green Bay, Wis./Criminal Justice) picked up the victory in net recording nine saves. Ashley Leintz recorded 11 saves for MSUM.
The Golden Eagles improve to 3-7-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the NSIC. The Dragons fall to 0-10-0 overall and 0-8-0 in the NSIC.
UMC returns to NSIC action tomorrow at Northern State University. The match begins at 1 p.m.
