Mankato, Minn. --- Sophomore
Korey Kronforst buried a goal into the right side with just over three minutes remaining in the first overtime to secure fifth-ranked Minnesota State's 1-0 victory over Minot State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate action Friday afternoon at The Pitch.
With the victory, the Mavericks move to 8-1-0 overall and 6-0-0 in NSIC play, while Minot State drops to 1-5-2 overall and 1-4-1 in league competition. The win extends MSU's conference unbeaten streak to 26 matches and its home unbeaten streak to 28 matches. Those streaks rank 17th-best and tied for 17th-best, respectively, in NCAA Division II history.
Additionally, Kronforst stretches her point-scoring streak to five matches as she has totaled six goals and an assist during the streak. Junior
Molly McGough collected her fourth shutout of the season in the win. The shutout gave her 21 during her career in NSIC play - tied for second all-time - and her 29th overall which ranks 16th-best in NCAA Division II history.
Through regulation, the Purple and Gold held a 28-3 advantage in shots and 9-0 edge in shots on goal as the Beavers were content playing a very defensive style and rarely crossing the center line.
The Mavericks snapped the scoreless tie in the 97th minute when junior
Emily Moris played a ball down the right side to senior
Tori Meinhardt who hit Kronforst in the center of the box before she blasted it past MISU sophomore
Gemma Biasetto for her seventh goal of the year to secure the 1-0 win. It marked Kronforst's third game-winning goal of the season.
All in all, MSU outshot the Beavers 30-3 and 10-0 in shots on goal while holding an 11-0 advantage in corner kicks. Biasetto recorded a match-high nine saves for MISU, while McGough was never tested in the victory.
Minnesota State returns to The Pitch Sunday at 1 p.m., where it will take on the University of Mary.
