Mavericks Sweep Dragons

Sartell, Minn. --- The  Minnesota State women’s tennis team earned its seventh conference victory of the season as the Mavericks swept MSU Moorhead 9-0 in the only match played in the NSIC last week.
 With the win, the Mavericks improve to 8-7 on the season, including a 7-2 record in NSIC play. With the loss, the Dragons fall to 2-8 on the season, with a 2-7 record in league play.  The Mavericks swept all three of the doubles matches by the scores of 8-2. The pairing of senior Brandi Dohmen and sophomore Shealyn Bakke won the No. 1 doubles match, while freshman Sarah McCann and junior Alexis Ronney won the No. 2 doubles match. The team of senior Hailey Robb and freshman Alexis Haakedahl won the No. 3 doubles match as well.  The Mavericks finished the dual with a 6-0 sweep of the singles matches.  Dohmen defeated Jenna Galstad 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match, while McCann bested Morgan Smith 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 singles match. In the No. 3 singles match, Bakke earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over Ashley Wood, while Haakedahl defeated Jaime LaCoursiere 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles match. Freshman Monica Sanvik claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 5 singles match over Kaitlyn Emerson, while Ronney completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-0 win in the No. 6 singles match over Kaitlin McNary.  The Mavericks return to action on the road April 4, as they take on St. Cloud State.

NSIC Tennis Team Notes
AUGUSTANA
Augustana was idle last week. They will take on MSU Moorhead, Winona State and Northern State this weekend.  The match versus Winona State on Sunday morning at 9 a.m. will be a battle of undefeated teams in the NSIC.

BEMIDJI STATE
The Bemidji State was idle last week. They will return to action April 6 when they travel to New Ulm, Minn. for a nonconference match up with Martin Luther College. The following morning at 10 a.m., BSU will jump back into NSIC play for a neutral-site match with Upper Iowa in Sartell, Minn.

UNIVERSITY OF MARY
U-Mary tennis was idle last week. Already with a program record five Northern Sun victories this season, the Marauders will have a chance to add to that mark on April 6 as they take on Upper Iowa.

MINNESOTA CROOKSTON
UMC was idle last week. They will take on Sioux Falls on Saturday.

MINNESOTA DULUTH
The University of Minnesota Duluth was idle last week. They will return to play on April 6 versus MSU and SMSU in St. Peter, Minn.

MINNESOTA STATE
Brandi Dohmen (Sr., Portage, Wis.) finished the week with a 1-0 mark in both singles and doubles matches. She earned an 8-2 win in the No. 1 doubles match with her teammate Shealyn Bakke. She then went on to claim a 6-0, 6-3 win over MSU Moorhead’s Jenna Galstad in the No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-3.

MSU MOORHEAD
The MSUM women’s tennis team dropped its lone match last week, falling to Minnesota State, Mankato on March 28 by a 9-0 score. The Dragons return home to face Augustana and Winona State on April 6.

NORTHERN STATE
Northern State was idle last week. They will return to play on April 7 when they play Augustana College in Watertown, S.D.

SIOUX FALLS
The Cougars were off Easter weekend but will continue their NSIC loop on April 6 with dual matches versus St. Cloud State and Minnesota Crookston.

SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE
SMSU (2-7)was idle last week, They will return to action with NSIC matches on April 6-7 versus Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota State and Upper Iowa at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn.

ST. CLOUD STATE
The St. Cloud State University women’s tennis was idle last week. On April 4, the Huskies will host NSIC opponent Minnesota State at the Fitness Evolution Tennis Center in nearby Sartell.

UPPER IOWA
The Peacock were idle last week. Upper Iowa will head to Minnesota April 6-7, to face three Northern Sun opponents.  The Peacocks will meet the University of Mary on Apr. 6 and then face off with Bemidji State University and Southwest Minnesota State University on Apr. 7.

WINONA STATE
The Warriors were idle last week.  They will put their 7-0 league record on the line versus MSU Moorhead on Saturday.  Then they will take on league leading Augustana (9-0) on Sunday at 9 a.m.  Their final match of the week will be against Bemidji State at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
