WINONA, Minn. – Jessica Kullmann hit a grand slam in game one and Ashley Walker tossed game two shutout to lead the Winona State softball team to a sweep of Northern State Monday in Winona. The Warriors won the opener 9-6 before adding a 13-0 victory in game two.

Kullmann hit homers in both games of the doubleheader, finishing the day 4-for-7 at the plate with seven runs batted in.
Walker continued her run of strong pitching, giving up just four hits in her game two shutout. The sophomore has now shutout three of her last four opponents and has allowed only two runs in her last 26 innings of work.
The victories move Winona State to 24-6 overall on the season and 9-1 in NSIC play. The team has won its last eight contests.
The Warriors scored right away in the opener, plating two in the first inning. Britt Stewart singled to score the team’s first run and Jessica Kullmann drew a bases loaded walk later in the frame to stake WSU to a 2-0 lead.
Northern State scored once in the bottom of the first but the Warriors came back with six runs in the second to take a 8-1 lead. Stewart drove in two with a single and Kullmann broke the game open with a grand slam to center field. Her blast was the third grand slam for the Warriors this season and helped her end the game with five total RBI.
A Stewart solo home run in the fourth made the WSU lead 9-1 but Northern State chipped away at the advantage, finally pulling within three, 9-6.
Stewart ended the game 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBI. The senior also picked up the win in the circle, moving her record to 8-5 after allowing eight hits and five earned runs.
The Warriors scored one run in both the first and second innings of game two, with Morgan Lintz hitting a run-scoring single in the first and Kullmann hitting her second home run of the day in the second, a solo blast that gave the team a 2-0 lead.
Brooke Piotrowski upped the Warrior lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Kullmann. WSU loaded the bases in the fifth and scored two more on a single by Natalie Kalmes.
Winona State broke the game open with eight runs in the sixth, receiving RBI hits from seven different players in the frame. Kalmes recorded her second two-run single of the game while Walker, Jenny Nelson, Kullmann, Kaitlin Hardie, Mackenzie Williams and Morgan Lintz each had run-scoring hits.
WSU collected 18 total hits in game two, with Karsten, Lintz and Kullmann each recording three.
The Warriors will return to action Tuesday when they host Minnesota State. First pitch of the doubleheader is set to begin at 2 pm at Alumni Field.
