SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Northern State tennis program rallied from a 3-1 deficit, winning five straight singles matches to secure a 6-3 victory over the University of Sioux Falls Tuesday afternoon in the regular season finale.
NSU ends the season at 9-4 overall and 7-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. USF slips to 7-9 on the year and 5-6 in its first season of NSIC play.
The Wolves came out of doubles play trailing 2-1 and went down 3-1 after the conclusion of the No. 6 singles match, but rallied with hard-fought wins in the remaining five singles matches. Deanie Hatch and Mikela Kowatsch took their matches to the tiebreaker set, while Jamie Voelker and Valerie Robinson worked to get extended first-set wins in their matches.
Northern State head coach Mark Lovrien called the match, "probably the best match we've played all year," saying the team played with a lot of poise and determination.
The Wolves are off for a couple days before heading to Minneapolis for the NSIC Championships next weekend.
