MARSHALL, Minn. - Alex Pantze scored a goal and tallied an assist in Southwest Minnesota Minnesota State's 3-0 victory over the University of Minnesota Duluth on Sunday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. The victory was SMSU's first ever over UMD in program history. SMSU was 0-21 against UMD coming into Sunday's game.
It was the fourth consecutive shutout of the season for the Mustangs and goalkeeper
Brienna Dehkes.
Pantze's goal came in the 64th minute and broke the 0-0 tie. Minutes later in the 67th minute it was Pantze again, this time she assisted on
Danica Caudillo's goal that gave SMSU a 2-0 lead. An insurance goal in the 77th minute padded the Mustang lead to 3-0 as Cadena scored her fifth goal of the season.
SMSU's entire offensive production came in the second half as the Mustangs didn't even get a shot off in the first half. In the second half it was SMSU that scored three goals on seven shots.
With the shutout, Dehkes and the defensive crew extends its scoreless streak to 389 minutes dating back to Sept. 13.
Dehkes picked up the victory in the net for SMSU and improved her season record to 8-0, 5-0 in the NSIC. Dehkes made three saves on 11 shots faced.
SMSU (8-0, 5-0 NSIC) will travel north next weekend for road games versus Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston.
