MOORHEAD, Minn. -- Eight Minnesota State University Moorhead players scored in double figures to help the Dragons upend No. 12-ranked Minnesota State, Mankato, 99-85 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday night in Moorhead, Minn.

MSUM improved to 11-3 overall and 7-3 in the NSIC with the win, while the Mavericks fell to 14-3 overall and 8-2 in the league.  It was MSUM's first win over a ranked opponent since the Dragons beat then-No. 11-ranked St. Cloud State on Dec. 15, 2012.

The Dragons shot a blistering 58.1 percent (36-of-62) in recording their biggest win so far of the 2013-14 campaign. MSUM shot 47.8 percent (11-of-23) from three-point range as well, led by a 3-for-4 effort from freshman forward Aaron Lien.

The balanced MSUM scoring attack was led by junior forward Urbane Bingham's 17 points. Junior guard Jordan Riewer added 15 points, while sophomore center Isaac Sevlie added a career-high 14 points. Sophomore guard Tyler Vaughan had 12 points, while Lien had 11. Senior guard Tarell Clark, junior guard Prescott Williams and sophomore guard Ngijol Songolo had 10 points each for MSUM.

Riewer had six assists while Williams had four. Clark led with seven rebounds while Bingham had two blocks.

The Dragons were down 30-26 with 8:15 left in the first half but outscored the Mavericks 22-11 to close the half and take a 48-41 lead into halftime. Sevlie sparked that surge with six points while Lien had five.

MSUM's 48-41 halftime lead came in large part because of 58.1 percent shooting (18-of-31) from the field, including 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from three-point range. Sevlie led the way with nine points while Lien had eight and Vaughan and Bingham seven each.

Mankato was within 52-46 with 17:58 left but the Dragons went on a key 11-4 run over the next 2:52 to stretch the lead to 63-50 with 15:06 left. Riewer had five points, including a three-pointer, while Bingham had four.

The Mavericks were as close as 71-62 with 11:36 left, but a three-pointer by Bingham, followed by a layup by Williams, pushed the Dragon lead to 76-62, and the Mavericks never got closer than 11 the rest of the night.

The Dragons shot 58.1 percent in the second half, hitting 18-of-31 field goals -- just like they did in the first half. MSUM also battled tough on the glass for the night, tying the Mavericks at 34-34.

MSUM is back in action on Friday at Bemidji State. Game time is 8 p.m. in Bemidji, Minn.

Steve d'Eustachio Stat of the Game: It took Isaac Sevlie 22 appearances to score two dozen points in his career. This weekend, he scored 24 (10 last night and 14 tonight) hitting 9-of-13 field goals and 6/9 from the free-throw line.
