NSIC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week
Bobby Brockmueller (Senior, Brandon, S.D. / Brandon Valley HS)
University of Sioux Falls


Bobby Brockmueller finished fifth in the college division to lead the #18 University of Sioux Falls men’s cross country team to a second-place finish (college division) at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark. The performance by Brockmueller and the Cougars ranks as one of the best in school history. Brockmueller, who was the NSIC Athlete of the Week on Sept. 23, was 24th overall in a field that included a horde of DI runners from the SEC and across the nation. Brockmueller had a 24:37.5 clocking on the 8K course, lead a group of Cougars runners which placed five runners in the top 22. USF finished ahead of two other ranked NCAA DII teams in #15 Missouri Southern State (3rd, 87 points) and #13 West Texas A&M (5th, 102 points). The Chile Pepper meet included 27 college division teams and 47 overall.

University of Mary
Marauders were idle last week.

Minnesota Duluth
Despite being without several of its top runners in a meet laden with nationally-ranked small college programs, the University of Minnesota Duluth still managed to come away with a 13th place finish at the 25-team University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugold Invitational Friday afternoon in Colfax, Wis. UMD, which as team totaled 341 points, was led by junior Drew Johnson, whose 8K time of 26:35.6 was good for 60th overall in the 410-runner field.
Up Next: The Bulldogs will reconvene on Oct. 18 for the Jim Drews Invitational, hosted by UW- La Crosse in Ettrick, Wis.

Minnesota State
The Mavericks were idle last week.  
Up Next: The Jim Drews Invitational slated for Oct. 18th in LaCrosse, Wis.

MSU Moorhead
The Dragons were idle last week.
Up Next: Oct. 10 at the Jimmie Invite in Jamestown, N.D.

Northern State
The Wolves were idle last week.

Sioux Falls

Southwest Minnesota State
The Mustangs T earned a fifth place finish out of nine teamsat the SDSU Cross Country Classic at Edgebrook Golf Course.  Alejandro Sanchez finished the 8k race with a time of 26:48 to place 23rd out of 90 runners. Evan Bonneson crossed the tape at 28:05 to place 51st and Blake Wooten finished at 28:10 and in 52nd place.

St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State was idle over the weekend.
Up Next: The Huskies will return to action on Oct. 18 with a trip to LaCrosse, Wisc. for the annual Drews/Neubauer Invitational at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.
-SCSU cross country fans will have an opportunity to watch the Huskies run at home at the 2014 St. Cloud State Bob Waxlax Invitational on Oct. 24.  The meet is named in honor of former SCSU coach and professor Bob Waxlax and it will be held at the Wapicada Golf Course in nearby Sauk Rapids, Minn.

Wayne State
The Wildcats were idle last week.
The Wildcats will next be in action on October 11 at the Briar Cliff Invitational in McCook Lake, SD.

Winona State
The WSU men’s cross country team had a solid run at the Louisville Cross Country Classic, finishing 23rd out of the 42 teams in the Blue Race at the meet. Billy Eifert was WSU’s top runner as he finished 100th out of the 356 runners with a time of 26:10.34. Shane Carlson also had a good outing by finishing 107th with a time of 26:15.12.
Up Next: The Warriors will have a few weeks off before they’ll run in the UW-L Drews-Neubauer Invitational in West Salem on October 18.

NSIC Cross Country Championship
NSIC Cross Country teams will compete in various meets throughout the fall with the season culminating in Wayne, Neb. on Saturday, November 8 at the NSIC / US Bank Cross Country Championships.  The NCAA Regional will take place two weeks later on Saturday, November 22 again in Wayne, Neb. The NCAA DII National Cross Country Championships will be held on Saturday, December 6 at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Ky. in conjunction  with the NCAA Fall Sports Festival.
