WINONA, Minn. – The Winona State baseball team received strong starting pitching performances from Chase Blazier and Will Lundquist to earn a pair of wins over Concordia-St. Paul Sunday in the team's home opener.

Blazier pitched a complete game shutout in the team's 5-0 victory in the opener while Lundquist allowed just one run in seven innings of work in the Warriors' 4-1 game two win.

Blazier was in command from the beginning of game one, scattering four hits while striking out two. The junior only walked one while moving his record to 3-2 on the season.

The Warriors got on the board offensively in the second inning of the opener, getting a RBI single from Andrew Geislinger that scored Nathan Krause.

The team added four runs in the top of the fourth inning to move its lead to 5-0. Lucas Crimmins led off the frame with a double and Geislinger singled to put runners on the corners with no outs. Joseph Kubera singled to plate one while Tyler Nehring added a run-scoring base hit of his own. Two other Warrior runners scored on wild pitches in the inning to stake the team to a five run advantage.

Nehring had hits in three of his four at bats while Crimmins, Travis Evanson and Geislinger each collected two of their own.

Game two followed the same script, with Lundquist allowing five hits and a single earned run while fanning four to move his record to 3-0. Joseph Kubera pitched a perfect eighth inning while Scott Freiburger earned his sixth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Winona State got on the board right away in the top of the first as Lucas Warren doubled and was sent home on a base-hit by Evanson.

Neither team would score again until the bottom of the sixth, with Concordia-St. Paul tying the game at one on a run-scoring single.

A pair of walks put two on for the Warriors in the top of the seventh and Ryan Nyhagen provided what would prove to be the winning run with a RBI single that plated Nathan Krause. Two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases for WSU in the ninth with the team getting a pair of insurance runs as Geislinger and Nyhagen were hit by pitches to score one each and move the team's advantage to 4-1.

Evanson and Nyhagen recorded two hits each in the nightcap to pace the Warrior offense.

Winona State (9-12 overall, 6-3 NSIC) will continue its four-game series against the Golden Bears Monday with a doubleheader at noon.
