Minnesota Sweeps Men's Outdoor Track & Field post season NSIC awards

NSIC Men’s outdoor Track Athlete of the Year
Minnesota State’s Jerrell Hancock (Sprints, Sr., St. Louis, Mo. / Anoka HS) was voted by the league coaches as the NSIC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year.  He won his third straight NSIC Championship in the 200-meter dash and second championship in the 100-meter dash. He was also part of the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams that finished first and second respectively at the NSIC Championships. His time of 10.32 in the 100-meter dash tops the NSIC and is sixth on the NCAA Division II list while his time of 20.86 in the 200-meter dash is an automatic-qualifying time and also ranks first in the conference and sixth in NCAA Division II. Hancock won NSIC Track Athlete of the Week twice during the outdoor season and was the NSIC Preseason Track Athlete of the Year.

NSIC Men’s outdoor Field Athlete of the Year
Minnesota State’s Chris Reed (Throws, Sr., Omaha, Neb. / Central HS) was voted by the league coaches as the NSIC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.  Reed was the high point scorer at the NSIC Championships scoring 30 points for the Mavericks, winning the shot put, hammer throw, and discus. Reed won the championship in the shot put for the fourth straight year with a NCAA automatic qualifying throw of 60’ 7 ¾” ranking fourth in NCAA Division II and first in the NSIC. Reed became one of three athletes at MSU to win the conference championship in one event all four years. In the hammer throw he broke the school record throw of 215’ 11”, meeting the automatic qualifying standard. That throw also ranks him first in NCAA Division II and the NSIC. In the discus he ranks first in the NSIC and 12th in NCAA Division II with a throw of 172’ 11”. Reed was the NSIC Preseason Field Athlete of the Year and won NSIC Field Athlete of the Week once during the outdoor season.

NSIC Men’s outdoor Track & Field Newcomer of the Year
Minnesota State’s Myles Hunter (Hurdles, Fr., Conyers, Ga. / Heritage) was voted by the league coaches as the NSIC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Newcomer of the Year.  Hunter garnered NSIC Track Athlete of the Week once during the outdoor season. He won the NSIC Championship in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.09 and was part of the 4x100-meter relay team that also finished first at the conference championships. His time of 14.06 he ran at the Beach Invitational is the fastest time in the NSIC and ranks him sixth in all of NCAA Division II this season.    

NSIC Men’s outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year
Minnesota State’s Jim Dilling was voted by his peers as the NSIC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year.  In his first season at the helm, Dilling led the 11th-rated Mavericks to another NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championship. This marks the Purple and Gold’s fifth championship in the past six seasons. MSU won this year’s championship by 48 points totaling 177 total points. Dilling also lead the Mavericks to the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships this past season.
