NSIC Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Stewart took home the first-place crown in the 60-meter dash in posting a time of 6.87 at the
Minnesota State Open. He would go on to come in second in the 200-meters as well running it in 21.43. That mark in the 200 acts as a provisional qualifying standard, giving him qualifying marks in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meters.

Sandle won the triple jump and came in third-place in the long jump at the Minnesota State Alumni Open. Sandle’s triple jump of 50’5.25” is not only a season high, but it also stands as the top mark across all of division II so far this season. This marks the second time this season Sandle has been named NSIC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.

Augustana
The Vikings did not compete last weekend.
Up next for Augustana is the Dordt Invitational on Jan. 17 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
Concordia-St. Paul
Men’s Field: Mike Cullen (Throws, 6’4”, Sr., Green Bay, Wis. / Preble HS) broke his own school record in the shot put as he finished with a distance of 53’8.25”, 1.5 inches further than his previous mark to place third in the event at Northwest Open at the U of M.
University of Mary
The Marauders were idle last week.
The University of Mary men’s track & field teams return to action this weekend when the Marauders compete in two meets hosted by NCAA Division I schools. U-Mary first travels to the the Montana State Open in Bozeman, Mont., on Friday, Jan. 16, before racing in the NDSU Invitational in Fargo, N.D., on Saturday, Jan. 17. The Marauders haven’t competed since Dec. 5 at the Dakota Duals Classic.
Minnesota Duluth
With University of Minnesota Duluth students still on semester break and school not set to resume for another 10 days, a small contingent of Bulldogs managed to make their way to Arden Hills, Minn., Saturday for the Bethel University Open and their first meet of the new year.
Men’s Track: UMD wound up with three individual champions on the afternoon as senior Phil d’Entremont (2.00.20 in the 800 meters), freshman Darrick Jackson (1:25.92 in the 600-meter run) and junior James Ryan (8.70 in the 60-meter hurdles).
The Bulldog will engage in their toughest test of the young 2014-15 indoor season next Sat., Jan. 17 when they compete in the University of Minnesota Open.
Minnesota State
The 15th-rated Mavericks hosted the MSU Alumni Open on Saturday and did so in impressive fashion.

Of note, Zach Gearman and Javontee Brice went one and two in the 400-meters with times of 50.35 and 51.07, respectively. Ben Ojika saw his second-place jump of 6’8.75” mark as a provisional qualifier in the high jump. Freshman Geno Bullard would also achieve a qualifying mark in the long jump at 23’5.25”. Senior Khalil Jor’dan would also achieve a provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump at 47’2.25”.
MSU Moorhead
The Dragons were idle last week.
Up next for MSUM is the Bison Classic in Fargo, N.D. on Sat., Jan. 17.
Minot State
The Beavers open their season on Jan. 16 & 17 at the Bemidji State Multis and Super 8 Open.
Northern State
NSU was idle last week. The Wolves will host the NSU Open in Aberdeen, S.D. on Jan. 16-17.
Southwest Minnesota State
Men’s Track: Sophomore Alejandro Sanchez (Plano, Texas) won the 800-meter at the Minnesota State Alumni Open with a time of 1:57.19.
Men’s Field: Freshman Zach Jones (New Prague, Minn.) placed among the top nine in three events at the Minnesota State Alumni Open. He finished sixth in the long jump with a school record mark of 6.47m, he placed seventh in the triple jump with a school record 12.81m jump and finished ninth in the 200-meter with a time of 23.55.
Sioux Falls
In their first competition of the New Year, University of Sioux Falls won three events and had five different Cougars reach provisional qualifying marks at the MSU Alumni Open on Saturday. Jagger Gran earned a runner-up finish and posted a qualifying mark as well.
Men’s Track: Trey Ferguson (Sprints, Fr., Lennox, S.D.) won the men’s 600-meter run at the MSU Alumni Open as he locked a personal-best 1:22.68 to win the title.
Men’s Field: Jagger Gran (Pole Vault, Jr., Shoreview, Minn./Mound View HS) placed second in the men’s pole vault with a provisional qualifying mark as he recorded a season-best clearance of 4.75 meters (15-7) to earn his runner-up finish. He currently ranks 10th in Division II with this mark.
St. Cloud State
The Huskies opened the new year at the Northwest Open hosted by the University of Minnesota at the U of M Fieldhouse. Four athletes set NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks in five events during the meet.
Men’s Track: First year sprinter Shaheed Hickman (Minneapolis, Minn.) placed second in the 60-meter dash in a provisional time of 6.84.
Men’s Field: Sophomore Keyshawn Davis (Milwaukee, Wis.) placed second in the long jump with a leap of 23-03.50, also a provisional mark. Junior Ryan Johnson (Amery, Wis.) had a pair of top five finishes. He placed second in the weight throw with a provisional throw of 57-02.50. He was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 49-00.25.
Wayne State
Men’s Field: Bryan Dunn - (Jr., Coleridge, Neb.) recorded a third place finish in the weight throw Saturday at the Doane College/Ward Haylett Invitatonal held in Crete. Dunn’s top mark with the 35-pound weight throw was 53’ 10 1/2”, the third-best mark of his career. He currently ranks fourth in the NSIC in the event.
