NSIC Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

Gran won the pole vault at the
SDSU Indoor Classic as he recorded a height of 17”1.75”. The height was not only an NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark, but also ranks the highest in all of Division II this season. This marks the second time this season Gran has been named NSIC Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.

Hunter hurdled into the Division II record books this past weekend. Following a 7.87 time in the preliminary round, Hunter wowed the entire facility at the
SDSU Indoor Classic with a final time of 7.64. This time broke his own school record, was an NCAA Automatic Qualifying time and also laid claim to the NCAA Division II National Record. Hunter is the sixth-fastest American in the 60-meter hurdles this season and second-best collegiate runner, topped only by the University of Arkansas’s Omar McLeod. This marks the fourth time this season Hunter has been named NSIC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
CU's Colin Goligoski wins NSIC Heptathlon Championship
Concordia-St. Paul senior Colin Goligoski (St. Paul, Minn. / Central HS) used a strong final day of the NSIC Heptathlon to surpass two-time defending champion Nathan Hancock of Minnesota State. Gologoski finished with 5151 points, 20 ahead of Hancock, to win CU's first NSIC Heptathlon title. The score is an NCAA provisional mark and ranks in the top ten scores of Division II this season. After trailing by 76 after day one, Goligoski uses a monster performance in the pole vault as he cleared 15'3" to take the lead over Hancock. His vault was two feet higher than the second place finisher. Goligoski then held on with for the win with a third place finish in the 1000m run. On day one Goligoski won the shot put (39'1.75") and took second in the long jump (21'11"). For more information go to the championship website at:

NSIC Team Notes
Augustana
Men’s Track: Ryan Heuer was the top Augustana finisher in the men’s 60-meter hurdles provisionally qualifying with a time of 8.18 for a new personal-best time, ranking 28th in the nation, and third in the NSIC.
Men’s Field: CJ Ham broke his own school record for a second time this season taking the top mark in the weighted throw provisionally qualifying with a heave of 19.04 meters (62’ 5.75”) which currently ranks 15th in the nation, first in NSIC. Ham also took fourth in the shot put provisionally qualifying with a throw of 16.02 meters (52’ 6.75”), which ranks third in NSIC.
Concordia-St. Paul

Josh Johanson (Fr., East Chain, Minn. / Granada-Huntley-East Chain HS) recorded a 2.04m leap in the high jump at the SDSU Open and placed second, which is the fourth highest jump in Division II by a freshman. He was just a centimeter short of the school record as he provisionally for the NCAA Championships.
University of Mary
Men’s Track: Chris Jessop (Sr., Corvallis, Mont.) set a school record in the 5,000 meter run at the SDSU Indoor Classic. Jessop completed the distance in 14:46.43 and placed fifth. Four other Marauders also had top ten finishes. Jay Cooper grabbed 8th in the 60 meter hurdles.
Men’s Field: In the triple jump, William Kaiger claimed sixth and Jarrod Shaffner was 10th. In the weight throw, Travis Gavin’s top effort placed him eighth overall.
Minnesota Duluth
UMD competed at the St. Thomas Showcase before returning to the Twin Ports Saturday to compete in the University of Wisconsin-Superior’s Yellowjacket Open. In the process, some eight different Bulldogs came away with individual championships.
Men’s Track: Phil d’Entremont’s 1:55.33 in the 800-meter meters narrowly missed the NCAA provisional qualifying mark by only .08 seconds at the St. Thomas Showcase.
Men’s Field: Senior captain Nick Moran won the weight throw (56’-09.50”) while junior Devin Sowers did so the shot put (49’-09.25’) at the Yellowjacket Open.
Minnesota State
At the SDSU Indoor Invite senior Emmanuel Matadi also had a great deal of success winning in both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meters. He won the 60-meters at 6.71 and also the 200 with a new school-record time of 21.10. Fellow senior Zach Gearman also holds a new school-record running the 600-meters 1:20.46

Men’s Field: The NSIC Multi Championships gave the Mavericks a quick 14 points in the NSIC/US Bank Championships as Nathan Hancock finished second with 5,131 and sophomore Ben Ojika finished third with 4,696.
Next up for Minnesota State is the Snowshoe Open, which is being held by the University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis, Minn.
MSU Moorhead
Men’s Track: Keith Turner (Sprints, Sr., San Diego, Calif./Hoover HS), competing at the SDSU Indoor Classic, was sixth in the 400-meter dash (university division) in 48.67, which is a NCAA provisional qualifying time and the third-fastest all time in school history. It is also the second-fastest time in the NSIC this season.
Men’s Field: Brian Huber (Jumps, R-Fr., Staples, Minn./Staples-Motley HS), competing at the SDSU Indoor Classic, placed third in the long jump with a jump of 23-3 1/4. He also was seventh in the high jump at 6’ 4.5”.
Minot State
Minot State University continued to improve on the season as evident in the multiple personal best earned on the weekend at the South Dakota State Classic.
Men’s Track: Tyler Bates (Sprints, 5-11, So., Watford City, N.D. / Watford City) ran a 49.61 in the men’s 400-meters to place eighth in the open division. He added a solid 22.63 to take 31st out of 130 runners in the men’s 200-meters.
Tyler Flatland (Hurdles, 6-0, Sr., Watford City, N.D. / Watford City) earned a 17th place finish in the men’s 400-meters, clocking in at 50.04 in the Elite Division and was 48th out of 130 runners in the men’s 200-meters.
Wayne Peters (Sprints, 5-10, Jr., Carson Calif. / Carson / Pasadena City College) finished in 17th place in the men’s 60-meter hurdles Saturday, racing to an 8.65 seconds finish. He also ran a season best in the 200-meters with a 24.67.
Minot State continues its indoor track & field season with the NSIC Indoor Championships Feb. 26 and 27 in Mankato, Minn.
Northern State
The Northern State University men’s track and field team compiled three school records at the SDSU open last Friday and Saturday. The Wolves recorded multiple top ten finishes from Brookings. NSU will be back in action at home next Friday versus Southwest Minnesota State.
Men’s Track: Brandon Krein (Mid-Distance, Sr., Estelline, S.D./Estelline HS) anchored his 4 x 800m relay team, which included Mark Gilkerson, Cameron Sannes, and Nick Lindwurm, with the team’s fastest split to help break the previous school record from 1993 by 0.34 seconds. Krein went on to surpass the open 800m school record mark of 1:55.89 set in 1998 by 0.03 seconds to finish 6th out of 88 runners in 1:55.86.
Men’s Field: Gage Rayman (Throws, Fr., Spokane, Wash./Shadle Park HS) led the Wolves throwing contingent in the weight throw to finish 22nd, while also adding a lifetime best in the shot put of 42’4.75” (12.92m
Southwest Minnesota State
Women’s Track: Chris Kveseth (So., Eagle River, Alaska / Chugiak HS) placed eighth out of 47 runners in the 600-meters with a personal best 1:22.33 at the SDSU Invite last weekend. He also earned a 39th place finish in the 400-meters with a time of 51.09.
Women’s Field: Zach Jones (Fr., New Prague, Minn. / New Prague HS) recorded a 14th place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 13.07m and also finished 24th in the long jump with a mark of 6.21m at the SDSU Invite.
Sioux Falls
University of Sioux Falls had an extremely successful weekend at the SDSU Indoor Classic.
Men’s Track: Bobby Brockmueller (Sr., Brandon Valley, S.D. / Brandon Valley HS) won the men’s 5,000-meter run with a provisional qualifying time and hit a PR in the men’s mile at the SDSU Indoor Classic. He took the 5K title with a personal-best 14:33.37 to hit his first provisional mark of the season, the 15th-fastest time in Division II this season. He also placed fourth in the men’s mile with a PR of 4:14.42, missing the provisional standard by less than two seconds.
Men’s Field: Jagger Gran (Jr., Shoreview, Minn. / Mound View HS) won the pole vault at the SDSU Indoor Classic as he recorded a height of 17”1.75”. The height was not only an NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark, but also ranks the highest in all of Division II this season. Teammate Scott Greenman’s vault of 16’9.25” was also an auto qualifying mark and ranks fourth in the nation.
The Cougars head to Vermillion, S.D. for the USD Twilight on Friday, Feb. 20 while the men’s distance medley relay squad heads to Golden, Colo. for the Joe Davies Classic looking to improve their qualifying mark.
St. Cloud State
SCSU competed at the SDSU Indoor Classic
Men’s Track: Two Huskies represented St. Cloud in the 400 meter dash. JoVonte Suber (So. St. Louis, Mo.) ran into fifth place with a time of 48.60 seconds, as teammate Isaiah Pitchford (Fr. Waukesha, Wis.) followed in behind, with a seventh place finish at 49.56 seconds.
Both Suber and Pitchford helped the men’s 4x400 team run to a third place finish, along with Marcus Welk (Fr. Fargo, N.D.), and Wyatt Vernon (Fr. Strawn, Ill.). The team ended with a final time of 3:17.16.
Men’s Field: Keyshawn Davis (So. Milwaukee, Wis.) found himself on the podium, with a third place finish after jumping past his competition in the men’s long jump, with a final distance of 7.09 meters. He also competed in the triple jump event, scoring a 13.88 meter jump, and taking home fourth place. Ryan Johnson (Jr. Avery, Wis.) posted a second place finish in men’s weight throw, with an impressive 17.94 meters, along with a sixth place finish in shot put, with a final distance of 15.76. Rafael Saez (Jr. Milwaukee, Wis.) was right behind Johnston, with a 15.35 meter throw, to gain him seventh place in shot put.
Wayne State
Men’s Track: Braxton Adams (Fr., Omaha, Neb.) raced to improved NCAA Provisional Qualifying Marks and personal best marks twice over the weekend. First, he competed at the Concordia Invite in Seward, Neb. where he placed second with a time of 6.88 seconds. He returned to the track on Saturday at the South Dakota State Invitational where he place 5th overall in a time of 6.87 seconds, but recorded a new personal best mark time of 6.85 seconds in the preliminary round. This was the third meet in a row that he has bettered the NCAA Provisional National Qualifying Mark standard.
Men’s Field: Derek Lahm (So., Columbus, Neb.) picked up a 4th place finish at the NSIC Heptathlon with an NCAA Provisional Qualifying Mark of 4, 658 points. He achieved personal best marks in the 60 meter dash (7.29), shot put (32’ 8 1/4”), high jump (6’ 0”), pole vault (10’ 11 1/4”), and the 1000 meter run (2:41.69). His mark of 22’ 3” was the best of the field in the long jump, as was his 1000 meter run time.
The Wildcats will send athletes to a pair of meets this weekend in hopes of improving marks heading into the NSIC Championships. They will compete at the USD Tune-up Meet in Vermillion, S.D. on Friday, as well as the UNL Tune-up Meet in Lincoln, Neb., also on Friday.
