KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- Minnesota State seniors
Assem Marei and
Zach Monaghan, along with head coach
Matt Margenthaler, have been invited to participate in the NABC Reese's Division II All-Star Game.
The Reese's Division II All-Star Game will take place on Friday, at 7 p.m., at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind.
Margenthaler has been named one of the two coaches for the event, along with Lonnie Porter from Regis University and will coach the East All-Stars. Marei and Monaghan were named to the east team as well.
Marei and Monaghan will be the fifth and sixth Mavericks to compete in the All-Star Game, joining Luke Anderson (2007), Atila Santos (2008), Travis Nelson (2010) and Jarvis Williams (2013).
A native of Cairo, Egypt, Marei led the Mavericks with 19.6 points and 8.9 rebounds per game. He finished the season with 12 double-doubles as he shot 61.8% from the field. He also led the Mavericks in blocks with 54. He was named to the All-NSIC First Team and recently received NABC All-Central Region First Team honors.
A guard out of Palatine, Ill., Monaghan averaged 15.6 points and 8.1 assists per game, while shooting 44.4% from the field. He led the Mavericks in steals this season with 32, and finished third on the team in three point field goals with 48. He tallied six double-doubles. Earlier this season he was named to the All-NSIC First Team and the NABC All-Central Region Second Team.
The Mavericks finished their 2014-15 season with a 24-8 record and advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
