No. 1 St. Cloud State brings home NSIC/US Bank Championship

Sioux Falls, S. D. - The #1 nationally ranked St. Cloud State University baseball team (51-3) captured the 2015 NSIC/US Bank Tournament Championship with a 10-5 win over host Augustana College (37-17) at Ronken Field in Sioux Falls, S.D.   SCSU, which also won the 2015 NSIC regular season title with a 31-3 league record, will now receive the league's automatic bid to the upcoming 2015 NCAA Division II tournament that starts next week.

The number one ranked team in the NCAA's latest Division II Central Region poll, SCSU will find out its assignment in the upcoming Central Region tournament during the NCAA's Division II tournament selection show on Sunday, May 10 at 9 p.m. (CT).   Fans can also watch the selection show live on the NCAA website at www.ncaa.com

The Huskies gained a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning during the title game against Augustana on May 9.  Brandon Arnold scored the run on an RBI single from Karl Sorensen.  Arnold scored again in the third inning to start a four-run drive that gave the Huskies a 5-1 lead.  A double by Zach Hoffmann scored Arnold and Hoffmann later scored with an RBI from Sorensen.  To cap the inning, Zak Hoffman blasted his 13th homer of the season to bring in two more runs.

Hoffman played long ball once again in the fifth inning with his 14th homer of the year that made the score 7-1.  Hoffman's blast scored Hoffmann on the play.  The Huskies then netted three runs in the top of the eighth inning to seal the deal.  Kyle Lieser and Arnold scored the first runs of the inning after an RBI single by Hoffmann.  Mike Jurgella ended the scoring after he was brought around by an RBI from Sorensen.

A grandslam homer in the bottom of the eighth inning by Augustana's Patrick Fiala closed the gap to 10-5 but the Huskies' relief force was able to bring home the 10-5 win in the bottom of the ninth.

On the day, SCSU outhit the Vikings 12-8.  SCSU's Ryan Diers was the pitcher of record for the Huskies with 7.1 innings of work.  He struck out five and allowed only four hits on the day.  Relief work for SCSU was provided by Karsen Forsman and Kevin Bolder in the final two innings.

At the plate, Hoffman had three hits, two homers and four RBIs in the game for the Huskies.  Hoffmann also had three hits in the game and charted three RBIs for the Huskies.  Reese Gregory and Arnold had two hits apiece in the game for SCSU.
