MINOT, N.D. – The Augustana soccer outlasted Minot State in the NSIC Tournament Semifinals on Friday to earn a 2-1 victory in double overtime. The fourht seeded Vikings avenged one of their two NSIC losses in their victory over the top seeded Beavers and will get the chance to avenge their other loss in the NSIC Finals.
Augustana plays second seeded Minnesota State on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. in Minot, N.D. for the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
The Vikings withstood an offensive barrage from the Beavers for the entire match and only allowed one goal. Minot State outshot Augustana 27-12 and had 11 shots on goal compared to just five by the Vikings.
Augustana made the most of those shots and would go on to end Minot State's 16 match unbeaten streak. The victory was Augustana's first win of a ranked opponent this season with Minot State being ranked No. 11 in the NSCAA Division II Poll.
Grace Behm got the scoring started for the match. Behm just snuck a shot passed the Beaver goalkeeper right before halftime to give the Vikings the 1-0 edge going into the break.
Minot State would come out and answer in the second half as Chloe Melton scored her fourth goal of the NSIC Tournament to tie the match at 1-1 in the 70th minute.
Minot State continued its offensive onslaught in the second half with 11 shots, but Augustana staved off the Minot advances to force overtime.

Taylor Machacek was a wall in the net facing eight shots, but Machacek made four saves and took the game to a second overtime.
In the second overtime the Vikings took their only shot of either overtime and made the most of it.
Emily Jacobson sent a corner kick into the box and
Rebecca Gasper scored the game-winning goal on a header.
On the goal, Jacobson tied the single season record with her seventh assist. Jacobson moved into fourth-place on the career assist list with 11 assists.
Machacek finished the match with 10 saves on the night and improved to 5-0 in NSIC Tournament matches. During the match Machacek eclipsed 200 saves in her career and 100 saves this season.
Augustana's victory over Minot State was the first time in school history that the Vikings defeated the No. 1 seed in the NSIC Tournament. Augustana has now won 5 straight NSIC Tournament matches and will go for its second straight NSIC Tournament title on Sunday.
