NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championship set for Fri.-Sat in Mankato, Minnesota

The 2016 NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championships will take place on Friday and Saturday, February 26-27 at Myers Field House on the campus of Minnesota State University, Mankato.  Field events begin Friday at noon followed by track events at 3 p.m.  Saturday will have field events begin at 10 a.m. and finals in track events at 1 p.m.  The awards ceremony is scheduled for approximately 4:30 p.m.  All-Conference performers shall consist of the top three place winners in each event and the members of the top two relay teams from the conference meet. NSIC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week:
Kaitlyn Long (Throws, So., Cottage Grove, Wis. / Monona Grove HS) - Winona State

- Won the weight throw at the University of Wisconsin Red and White open
- Finished ahead of three-time Big 10 Field Athlete of the Week Kesley Card with a toss of 71-2 (21.69m)
- Longs throw surpassed the NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 19.44m
- Long had nearly a five foot personal record in the shot put with a heave of 14.65m (48-0.75)
- Long’s shot put was an NCAA provisional mark and ranks first in the NSIC and tenth in all of NCAA DII
- This marks the fourth time this season Long has earned NSIC Field Athlete of the Week honors

NSIC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week:
Emilee Trost (Mid-Distance, So., Goodhue, Minn. / Cannon Falls HS) - Minnesota Duluth

- Won the 800 meter run at the Parent’s Day Invite at the University of Minnesota
- Trost’s time of 2:08.67 shaved nearly two seconds off the previous school record (2:10.65) set by Liz Palkie in 2009
- Trost’s converted time of 2:07.21 ranks first in NCAA DII and is an automatic qualifying time
- Trost now owns four UMD records (three individual and one relay)
- This marks the fourth time this season Trost has been named NSIC Track Athlete of the Week

Augustana

- Augie competed at the SDSU Tune-up
Women’s Track
- Valerie Moos finished in first in the women’s 400 meter dash with a season best time of 57.95
- Avery Selberg finished in first in the women’s 800 meters with a time of 2:17.03
Women’s Field
- Calliann Brunswig finished in first in the women’s long jump with a jump of 5.55 meters
- Kelsey Kaufmann and Christine Campbell came in first and second in the women’s high jump
- Kaufmann cleared the bar at 1.63 meters, Campbell at 1.58 meters
 
Bemidji State
-The Bemidji State track and field team hosted the BSU Twilight Feb. 19
- The Beavers had five athletes finish among the top three in their respective events
Women’s Track
- Jane Austin placed second in the 3,000-meter run at the BSU Twilight Friday
- Austin crossed the finish line in a personal-best 11:36
Women’s Field
- Ciara Brewster won the shot put event at the Bemidji State Twilight Friday
- Brewster recorded a toss of 40-8.75 to finish over eight inches beyond the rest of the field
- Brewster also finished sixth in the weight throw, stretching the tape to 40-09.00
- Eleven other BSU athletes recorded personal-bests at the meet

Concordia-St. Paul
Women’s Field
- Erica Young picked up a pair of top-3 finishes in the Parents Day Open
- Young grabbed second in the 400m with a time of 59.06 seconds
- Young cleared 17’0.50” to finish third in the long jump

University of Mary
- The Marauders picked up eight titles and five NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the BSU Twilight in U-Mary’s final tune-up before defending their NSIC conference title on Feb. 26-27
Women’s Track
- Tonie-Ann Pandohie won two events at the BSU Twilight
- Pandohie won the 60 meter hurdles in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.69 seconds after posting a time of 8.64 in the preliminaries
- Pandohie captured the 200 meter dash in 25.42 seconds
Women’s Field
- Davina Carr won the pole vault at the BSU Twilight with an NCAA provisional qualifying height of 12-10.00
- Junior All-American Davina Carr (Nine Mile Falls, Wash.) won the pole vault in a provo height of 12-10.00.
- Senior All-American Faith Kjelstrup (Glendive, Mont.) won the 60 meter dash (7.89) and the triple jump (37-04.00)
- Three more Marauders posted NCAA provisional qualifying marks: senior Molly McDonald (Lakewood, Colo.) in the high jump (5-05.25), freshman Maria Bolibruch (Kingstown, R.I.) in the 60 meter hurdles (8.81), and freshman Jaiden Schuette (Bismarck, N.D.) in the 800 meter run (2:15.40)

Minnesota Duluth
Women’s Track
- Emi Trost won the 800 meter run at the Parent’s Day Invite at the University of Minnesota
- Trost’s time of 2:08.67 broke the school record by two seconds and ranks first in DII this season
- Danielle Kohlwey also turned in a record-breaking performance Saturday
- Kohlwey finished first in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.71 --  breaking current senior Chanel Miller’s 8.75 record from three years ago

Minnesota State
Women’s Track
- Haley Kruger finished second in the 800-meter run at the Parents Day Open with a time of 2:11.57 (converts to 2:10.07)
- Kruger set a new personal best time and currently ranks as the ninth fastest time in Division II
Women’s Field
- Kayla Lindell won the high jump at the Parents Day Open with a leap of 5-5.25
- Lindell’s mark is tied for the 34th best mark in Division II

MSU Moorhead
Women’s Track
- Caroline Jansen had three top three finishes at the BSU Twilight
- Jansen was second in the long jump (17-6.25), second in the triple jump (37-1) and third in the 60-meter hurdles (8.99)
Women’s Field
- Bailey Reiner won the long jump at the BSU Twilight
- Reiner finished with an effort of 17-11.5, which was a season-best
- Reiner’s jump was the eighth-best in the NSIC this season
 
Minot State
-Minot State University was idle last weekend

Northern State
- NSU finished off the indoor regular season last Friday at the SDSU Last Chance Meet
Women’s Track
- Toni-Ann Ingram continued to take time off her 60-meter dash mark, taking second in the race with a time of 7.87 seconds
Women’s Field
- Breann Jackson was the top Division II finisher in the shot put, taking second with a 13.15-meter throw
- Jackson went on to win the weight throw with an 18.16-meter mark

Sioux Falls
- Sioux Falls Women’s Track & Field closed the regular season at the SDSU Tune Up on Friday, Feb. 19
Women’s Track
- Jessica Justin placed third in the 200-meter dash while Rachel Huffman was fourth in the 1000-meter run and Becca Goertzen took fourth in the 3k
Women’s Field
- Kimberly Peterson placed third in the women’s pole vault, clearing 3.95 meters (12 feet-11.5 inches), a provisional qualifying mark
- Sophie Harano and Megan Muller placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with provisional marks
- Amber Cook finished second in the triple jump and Jada Carr was third in the long jump
- Haley Hinseth and Hannah Steele both finished top-eight in the weight throw and shot put competitions

Southwest Minnesota State
-The SMSU women’s team set four records at the SDSU Last Chance Meet on Friday
Women’s Track
- Kim Shabino finished third in the finals of the 60 meters with a school record time of 7.91
- Ellen Padmore ran a 28.85 in the 200m to finish second out of 17 runners, while Eisha Oden placed third out of 13 in the 400m with a time of 58.99
- Sarah Mayfield finished in the fifth place in the 400m crossing the line at 59.76
- Macy Violett also put her name in the record book with a time of 1:41.61 in the 600m to finish sixth
Women’s Field
- Holly DuHoux recorded a 14.45m toss in the weight throw, to finish fifth
- Rhiannon Sears also had a toss that beat the previous school mark, placing ninth at 13.94m

St. Cloud State
- SCSU competed at the University of Minnesota at the Parents Day Open
Women’s Field
- Patience Yalartai earned her third triple jump victory of the season
- Her jump of 11.61m was an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark, but didn’t better her previous best leap in the event this season
- Redshirt junior Cassie Cardinal ended up finishing third in the shot put with her season-best and NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark of 13.44m
- Senior Heather Clankie finished fifth in the unseeded weight throw (12.85m).

Upper Iowa
- Upper Iowa had standout performances in distance running at the Missouri Collegiate Challenge in Columbia, Mo. on Friday
Women’s Track
- Junior Chandra Smith picked up her second win of the year by claiming the 5000-meter title
- Smith finished with a time of 21:00.71, just two behind her school record pace
- Fellow junior Bethani Jacobsen finished sixth in the 3000-meter run, breaking her own school record by nearly 30 seconds with a time of 11:26.65
Women’s Field
- Freshman Gabbie Mohs set a new personal record in the shot put and finished eighth with a throw of 11.32 meters.
 
Wayne State
Women’s Track
- Rachel Rauner placed 12th in the 200 meter dash in a time of 26.70 seconds Friday night at the Nebraska Tune-up Invitational held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln
Women’s Field
- Kyndra Sturm recorded a fifth place finish in the weight throw at 53-8.5 Friday night at the Nebraska Tune-up Invitational held at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln

Winona State
Women’s Track
- Megan Seidl once again broke the school record in winning the 200m at the University of Wisconsin Red and White Open, beating athletes from Wisconsin, Marquette and Northern Iowa
- Seidl then went on to lead off the Warriors winning 4x400 relay that took over the #1 spot in the NSIC and attained a NCAA II provisional standard
Women’s Field
- Kaitlyn Long won the weight throw at the University of Wisconsin Red and White open, which included athletes from three D1 Schools
- Long, who finished ahead of three-time Big 10 Field Athlete of the Week Kesley Card, won the event with a toss of 71-2 (21.69m)
