The NSIC has three student-athletes selected in the 2016 Major League Baseball draft.  Augustana pitcher Michael Letkewicz was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 23rd round (692nd pick), Minnesota Duluth first baseman Alex Wojciechowski was selected by Philadelphia in the 15th round (437th pick) and Minnesota State junior right handed pitcher Tyler Frohwirth also went to the Phillies in the 31st round (917th overall).

Wojciechowski becomes the fifth player in UMD history to be drafted and ninth to play professional. He is the second-highest drafted Bulldog of all time and earliest since John Engen ('79) in 1980 was picked with the 145th overall pick. Tim Battaglia ('04) was the last Bulldog selected in the draft, joining the Cleveland organization as a 50th round pick (1,476 overall) in 2004. Battaglia remains the all-time Bulldog leader in career batting average (.411) while Wojciechowski finished his career leading UMD in all-time hits, home runs, runs batted in, runs scored, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, doubles, and total bases.  During the 2016 season, he became a unanimous First Team All-American, sweeping the Player of the Year honors from all five major organizations in NCAA II.

Letkewicz is the fourth Viking to be drafted in the MLB First-Year Player Draft in the last five years. Derek Hansen was taken in the 25th round by the Oakland Athletics in 2012, Jordan Milbrath was selected in the 35th round of the 2013 draft by the Cleveland Indians and Jack Goihl was selected in the 28th round by the Indians. Letkewicz is the eighth player from Augustana to be selected in the MLB Draft. Letkewicz ended his career at Augustana tied for sixth in career wins with 15, seventh in innings pitched with 169.1 and had the third most strikeouts in a career with 178. In 2014 Letkewicz helped Augustana capture the NSIC Tournament Championship and its second ever NCAA Tournament appearance after tying the program record for wins in a season with eight. He will enter the Indians farm system second on the single season list for strikeouts in a season with 85 in 2014.

Frohwirth has made 33 appearances, all in relief, in his three seasons with the Mavericks. He owns a 3-0 career won-loss record with one save, a 4.50 earned run average while striking out 24 and walking 12 in 32 innings pitched for his college career, which includes a redshirt year in 2013.  He is the son of former major league pitcher Todd Frohwirth.
