NSIC Men's Basketball Players of the Week


NSIC North Division Player of the Week
#10 Brandon Myer (F, 6-7, So., Superior, Wis. / Superior HS)
Minnesota Duluth

- Averaged 24.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in UMD’s first weekend sweep since Jan. 9-10, 2016
- Shot 47.6 percent on the floor including 40.0 percent from three
- Posted his third double-double of the season with 27 points and 12 rebounds in a 75-71 come-from-behind win over UMC
- Hit the go-ahead shot with 48 seconds remaining to knock off the Golden Eagles
- Scored 21 points with seven boards in a 62-57 win over BSU
- Led the team in scoring in seven consecutive outings, scoring 20-plus points in each game dating back to Dec. 9
- His remarkable consistency marks him as the first Bulldog to record that stretch of 20-point games since the turn of the century
- Sits sixth in points per game at 19.9 and 7.9 rebounds in the NSIC this season. Is also fourth in blocks at 1.2 in league play

- Averaged 24.0 points with 7.5 rebounds per game and was 16-of-29 for 55.1 percent from the field in a weekend split
- Hit 9-of-18 from three point range and 7-of-11 on his free throws
- In a 77-72 win over UIU, had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead USF to sweep of the series with the Peacocks
- In a 72-70 road loss at WSU, had 31 points and eight rebounds while establishing a career high with seven three-pointers 
- The seven threes, are the third highest total in the NSIC this season
- Was 11-of-18 from the floor, including 7-of-12 from three-point range
- Now has 54 career double digit scoring games and 21 career 20 point or better performances
- Has 1,143 career points and sits 23rd at USF on all-time scoring chart, passing Matt Correa, who had 1,118 career points from 1993-97

- Augustana used the same five starters in all 16 games this season

- BSU held a 72-68 lead with just under seven minutes remaining in the game before SCSU went on a 9-0 run to finish the second half to open the weekend
- The Beavers shot 45.6 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from beyond the arc but was outrebounded, 40-32
- In the weekend finale, neither team led by more than five points throughout the entire game, while UMD finished the night on a 9-0 run
- Bemidji State shot 37.5 percent from the floor, 37.5 percent from long range and 81.8 percent from the free throw line but was outrebounded, 38-33
- The Beavers finished the weekend shooting 41.6 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from 3-point range and 72.4 percent from the charity stripe while averaging 32.5 rebounds and 11 assists per game

- Sharif Black recorded his second 20-point game in the last three outings Friday against St. Cloud State while finishing with a team-high 21
- Black averaged 13.0 points, 5.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game on the weekend
- Senior guard Christian Pekarek led BSU with 14.0 points per game on 56.3 percent shooting from the field and 62.5 percent from beyond the arc
- All five of BSU’s starters averaged in double-figures over the weekend

- Concordia opened up a four-game road trip to kick off 2018 with losses to Wayne State on Friday and Augustana on Saturday
- It was a tale of two halves in both contests as CSP fell behind by 15 in the opening half on Friday before outscoring the Wildcats 48-45 after the break, and went into the half down 28-27 on Saturday before the Vikings pulled away with a 48-33 edge in the second half
- The Golden Bears continued to hold their own on the glass with a 16-14 advantage in offensive rebounds while trailing their opponents 65-62 overall in the rebounding column
- CSP saw their opponents hit an efficient 50.4% (57-113) from the floor while shooting 42.2% (46-109) themselves on the offensive end
Top Performer(s)
- Aided by a career-best 20 points against WSC on Friday night, Ahmad Newsome paced the squad with 12.5 points per game on 61.5% (8-13) shooting and 90.0% (9-10) from the free throw line
- Avan Ward joined in double figures with 11.5 points and 4.5 boards in 35.0 minutes per game on the weekend
- Ted Brown took advantage of his opportunities by hitting 72.7% (8-11) from the floor to put up 9.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in 13.5 minutes per game off the bench

- On their first road trip of 2018 the Marauders earned their first Northern Sun win of the season with a 77-65 win at MSU Moorhead, the defending NSIC champion
- Jaylan White (27) and Trevor Zacher (23) combined for 50 points in the win over the Dragons. Both players posted career-high scoring totals. It is the first time this season the Marauders had two players score 20 points or more in the same game
- UMary closed out the MSUM win on a 14-5 run in the final three minutes, scoring on eight straight possessions
- Three out of the Marauders five starters and nine out of 12 players made their UMary debut this season
Top Performer(s)
- Jaylan White had the biggest weekend of his career, averaging 21.5 ppg, 2.5 rpg and 2.5 apg while making 13-of-16 field goal attempts, making both 3-pointers he took, and was 15-of-16 at the free throw line.
- White scored 16 points in the Marauders loss at #13 Northern State, making 4-of-5 field goal attempts and all eight free throws
- White posted a career-high 27 points in UMary’s win at MSU Moorhead, making 9-of-11 field goals, both three point attempts and 7-of-8 free throws
- He also had four rebounds and five assists
- Trevor Zacher scored 23 points against the Dragons
- He was 9-of-14 from the field overall and 2-of-5 behind the arc
- Zacher also added seven rebounds as he opened the weekend with 11 points and seven rebounds at Northern State

- The Golden Eagles continued to be on their best start to a season in the program’s history of NCAA Division II with an 8-8 mark despite a pair of losses to Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State
- Minnesota Crookston is one win away from tying the school record of nine wins set during the 2000-01 season
- The Golden Eagles continue to be in fourth place in the NSIC North with a 5-5 conference mark
- Minnesota Crookston has loved playing in the friendly confines of Lysaker Gymnasium this season as they are 7-1 this season at their home gym
- They have not found as much success away from Crookston on the 2017-18 season as they are 1-6 on the road this season
- Harrison Cleary became the third player in school history to reach 1,000 points and the quickest to do so surpassing Joe Hasz
- Cleary also surpassed Akeem Cubie for second all-time in scoring
- University of North Dakota transfer Josh Collins saw his first action last weekend for the Golden Eagles
- Collins averaged 5.0 points and 5.0 rebounds on the weekend, including an impressive 10 points and eight boards Saturday at St. Cloud State
- Gable Smith continues to lead NCAA Division II in blocks per game
- Harrison Cleary is second in NCAA Division II in free throw percentage.

- Harrison Cleary tallied 24.0 points a game, 1.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game
- He shot 59.4 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from beyond the arc
- Alan Hodge, Jr. notched 14.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game
- He shot 40.0 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from beyond the arc

- UMD was plus-11 on the glass in Friday’s win with 18 offensive rebounds and 19 second chance points
- The defense allowed season lows in scoring (57) and field goal percentage (37.5) in the win over the Beavers

- Brandon Myer led the team in scoring for a sixth and seventh consecutive night as he averaged 24 points. Myer notched his third double-double (27 points, 12 rebounds) in the win over Minnesota Crookston
- Logan Rohrscheib was second in scoring for the Bulldogs with 13 points per game. Rohrscheib has knocked down 43 consecutive free throws
- Trevor Entwisle sparked both victories late and tied his career high in assists with six on Saturday in the win over Bemidji State. He also had 16 points, six boards and five assists the previous outing vs. the Golden Eagles
- Sean Burns came off the bench and added 7.5 points and 8.0 rebounds for the weekend

- NSU out-scored their opponents 81-54 in the first half, and held them to a field goal percentage of 38.9 as well as a 3-point percentage of 23.1

- Ian Smith led the team with 38 points, averaging 19.0 per game, while shooting 73.7 percent from the floor

 - With a combined 48 points against Upper Iowa (17) and Winona State (31), Drew Guebert moved to 23rd place all-time on USF’s scoring list
- Guebert has 1143 points in in just 77 games
- Guebert, who has 54 double digit and 21 20 point scoring games in his career, ranks second in the NSIC in scoring at 22.3 ppg 
- With nine 3’s this weekend, he also moved into fifth all-time at USF in made 3’s with 174
- Guebert recorded a career best seven made three’s, which was third best total in the league this season, and had 31 points in 72-70 loss at WSU
- He now has had three games of 30 points and nine of 20 points or more this season
- Trevon Evans now has 13 double digit  double digit scoring games in 14 played this season with 28 points against Upper Iowa and 10 vs Winona State; he now has seven games of 20 points or more
- Justin Taylor had his fourth double digit scoring games with 11 points, while also grabbing four rebounds with two blocked shots, in 77-72 win over Upper Iowa
- Zach Wessels averaged 7.0 points, four rebounds and four assists in two road games this weekend

- Averkamp reached 1,000 career points and became the 41st member of the club with his first basket in the game against Bemidji State
- Brindley Theisen has scored in double figures in 11 of the team’s 15 games after scoring 12 against Bemidji State
- Gage Davis scored 25 or more points for the second time this season and the 24th time in his career with a season-high 26 against UMC
- The game was the second time on the campaign that Davis has led the team in scoring
