WEST FARGO, N.D. – Minnesota State reclaimed its lead at the 2018 NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships after day three as five more event finals took place on Friday night from the Hulbert Aquatic Center in West Fargo, North Dakota. Minnesota State, the leader after day one, reclaimed its lead as the Mavericks hold a 39 point lead over St. Cloud State heading into the final day of competition.  The Mavericks have 660 points to the Huskies 621 after 15 events. 

St. Cloud State started the night off with Andrea Bryson winning the 500-yard freestyle in an NSIC record time of 4:58.39.  Her time broke the 2014 record of 5:01.00 previously held by Alecia McGillivray of Lindenwood.

Sioux Falls' Cassie Wright took top honors in the 100-yard backstroke as she won with a time of 54.53 while Josie Sticha won the 100-yard breaststroke in an NCAA "B" cut time of 1.04.56.  Minnesota State's Taylor Bass also hit an NCAA "B" cut time as she won the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:03.73.

The Minnesota State 800-yard  freestyle relay set a NSIC record with at time of 7:37.47 breaking the 2014 record of 7:39.06 set by Lindenwood.  The team of Taylor Bass, Chelsea Calhoon, Emelia Selky and Rylie Parman now hold the NSIC record. 

The NSIC Swimming & Diving Championships continue through Saturday, Feb. 17. Seven NSIC teams will compete over four days for the NSIC Championship.  Saturday’s trial sessions will begin at 10 a.m. with the finals set for 6 p.m. Finals will include the 1650 Freestyle, the 100 Individual Medley, the 100 Freestyle, the 200 Backstroke, the 200 Breaststroke, Three-Meter Diving and the 400 Freestyle Relay.

The top three finalists in each individual event and top two finalists in each relay event will be recognized as NSIC All-Conference during the meet. A Swimmer of the Year, Diver of the Year, Freshman of Year, Swim Coach of the Year and Dive Coach of the Year will also be voted on by the coaches during the event. Finally, at the conclusion of the meet, the swimmer with the most points will be named the NSIC Swimmer of the Meet and the diver with the most points will be named NSIC Diver of the Meet.
