NSIC Athletes of the Week

NSIC Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Afure Adah
(Sprints, Jr., Moorhead, Minn. / Shanley HS)
Minnesota State

- Adah claimed the 100m Dash at the Dingels Brueggen Open with a time of 12.00
- The junior took second in the 200m Dash with a time of 24.98
- Her times in both the 100m and 200m dash are currently the top times in the NSIC

NSIC Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Michaela Dendinger
(Throws, Jr., Coleridge, Neb. / Hartington HS)
Wayne State

 - In the first two weeks of the outdoor season at the Wildcat Classic and the FHSU Alex Francis Classic, Dendinger is undefeated against collegiate competition in the shot put, discus, and hammer throw events
- Hit  NCAA Automatic marks in both the hammer throw (62.74m/205-10) and shot put (15.84m/51-11.75), both top NCAA Division II this season
- Hit the NCAA Provo mark in the discus throw with a mark of (49.65/162-11),which is 7th in NCAA DII
- In addition, she was the USTFCCCA DII Women's Athlete of the week for March 26
- This NSIC Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week Honor extends Dendinger's streak to seven as she won all six NSIC Field Athlete of the Week honors during the 2017 season

- Junior Christa Benson took wins in the high jump, with a personal best mark of 5-02.25, and the 400m hurdles, with a time of 1:05.40
- Sophomore Gena Baklund broke the BSU program record in the hammer throw with an event-winning toss of 155-08
- Freshman Venice Stewart won the 200m dash with a time of 26.51 and set the BSU program record in the 100m dash with a time of 12.13 in the preliminary round
Team Notes
- BSU took home four first-place finishes in the high jump, 400m hurdles, 200m dash and hammer throw
- Bemidji State finished with 12 Beavers within the top five of their respective events
- The Beavers set eight personal record marks, not including freshmen, at the Dutch Invitational

Top Performer (s)
- Kalle Burney and Wakpor Ighovojah quickly hit the NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the heptathlon in their outdoor debut as Burney won the event by grabbing 4878 points while Ighovojah followed close behind in second with 4734 points
- Toni Canfall was the top finisher in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.37 seconds after blazing through the prelims in 12.24 seconds as she also teamed up with Lauren Magnuson, Erika Shady and Maddy Kunshier in the 4x100 meter relay to win the event with a time of 48.76 seconds
- Kara Lindberg registered another win for the women as she wrapped up the top spot in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:53.94

-Concordia’s women tallied five wins and 14 top-five finishes in their second meet of the outdoor season

- Hanneke Oosterwegel swept the hurdle races, winning the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.58 and the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.27
- Jordan Menken finished eighth in the discus with a national provisional mark of 44.92m, which ranks 25th overall in the nation
- Also notching top-10 finishes were Tayla Peterson (200m), Madison Barnes (400m), Mackenzie Cruzen (400m), Paige Larson (800m, 1500m), Madison Leapaldt (5000m), Shanice Burrell (100m H), Sonia Alaman (HJ), and Nicolette Kneeland (HT)
Team Notes
- NSU finished fifth at the Alex Francis Classic with 51 team points
- The Wolves tallied numerous top-10 finishes, as well as two event wins and one NCAA provisional mark
- The 4x100m relay team of Ingram, Barnes, Rezac, and Oosterwegel finished in second overall with a time of 50.28, less than one second off the leader while the team of Kinzer, Peterson, Cruzen, and Burrell followed taking fourth in the event with a time of 51.22
- NSU moved on to the 4x400m relay, where Barnes, Cruzen, Peterson, and Rezac finished in fourth with a time of 4:21.27

- Angela Prokosch smashed her own school record in the hammer with a 48.72m throw to record a first place finish

- The Huskies competed in their first outdoor event of the season and traveled to Winona, Minnesota to take part in the Dingels/Brueggen Open on March 29 and had eight top-five finishes
- Abby Jungwirth finished second in the triple jump (11.52m/37’09.50”)
- Faith Lubner was the runner-up in the 100m hurdles (15.01)
- Natalie Gottschalk placed third in the high jump (1.58m/5’02.25”)
- The 4x400 relay team of Kaylee Gessay, Emily Yeager, Autum Shurbert-Hetzel and Bridget Brown finished third (4:07.88) in their event

Top Performer (s)
- Upper Iowa broke six school records in their first outdoor meet, and placed 15 times inside the top-10, including eight top-5 finishes as well
- Erica Kelly, Kenzie Soeken, Jenna Ross, and Kristin Culp teamed up in the 4x100-meter relay to place second with a time of 50.35 seconds
- In the 4x400-meter relay, Breyanna Hill, Kelly, Soeken, and Culp combined for a second-place finish with a time of 4:06.80
- Culp finished third with at time of 15.52 seconds in the 100 hurdles and fourth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:05.72
- Madison Brownrigg set a new mark in the 3000-meter run, placing second overall with a time of 11:05.06
- Kenzie Soeken placed 12th in the long jump, setting a new outdoor record with a leap of 5.13m (16'-10")

- Senior Michaela Dendinger hit two NCAA automatic marks and one provisional mark in throws
- Dendinger threw 205’ 10” in the hammer throw and 51’ 11 ¾” in shot put Friday, both marks lead NCAA DII and are automatic qualifiers
- Dendinger also won discus at 162’ 11”, an NCAA provisional mark, and ranks 7th in NCAA DII
- Senior Kacie O’Connor had NCAA provisional mark in discus at 147’ 5”

- Senior Tamika Tucker won the long jump with a distance of 5.68m
- Freshman Kristi Springer won the triple jump with the sixth-best distance in WSU history (11.55m)
- Senior Heather Buckler won the shot put with a toss of 13.79m
