DALLAS, Texas - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its NCAA Division II Players of the Week awards for the week ending on March 10 and Concordia-St. Paul junior Louie Varland was named the NCBWA Central Region Pitcher of the Week.
 
NCBWA Central Region Pitcher of the Week
#17 Louie Varland (RHP, 6-1, 210, Jr., L/R, Maplewood, Minn. / North St. Paul HS)
- Worked 8.0 shutout innings in a 4-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State on Friday
- Allowed just six hits and a walk while striking out a career-best 11 in the victory
- Lowered his season ERA to 0.69, good for fourth in the NSIC, while his .174 opponent average ranks sixth
 
Florida Southern sophomore first baseman Jacob Teter is the National Hitter of the Week, while Chico State junior lefty Grant Larson is the National Pitcher of the Week.

Founded in 1962, the NCBWA is dedicated to the advancement of college baseball. Membership is open to writers, broadcasters and publicists of the sport. Members receive a membership card, directory, newsletter updates and official votes in the Howser Award Player of the Year, Regional Player of the Year and NCBWA All-America voting. The NCBWA also sponsors preseason All-America awards, publication and writing contests.
