Minnesota State Defeats Northern State 4-2 in NSIC Baseball Tournament

St. Cloud, Minn. --- Minnesota State battled back from a 2-0 deficit in claiming a 4-2 victory over Northern State in ten innings in the first round of the 2019 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Tournament being played in St. Cloud, Minn.

The Wolves took a 2-0 lead, nicking Maverick starter Cam Kline for runs in the top of the fourth and the top of the seventh.  The Mavericks rallied in the bottom of the seventh, with Ty Denzer plating Kline on a ground out and Tom Imholte RBI single driving in Jack Waletich.

Two scoreless innings followed before junior first baseman Ty Buck belted his ninth home run of the year over the right field fence after Nick Altermatt had reached first on an error.

Kline, when went two-for-three at the plate in the game, scattered seven hits will fanning 11 NSU batters and walking two. He upped his record to 10-1 for the year with the win.


For the Wolves, centerfielder Justin Barreneche went 2-5 with a homerun to lead the way.
