MANKATO, Minn. - Minnesota State won its ninth straight NSIC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship as events wrapped up from Myers Field House. The Mavericks, which also won their 11th championship in the last 12 years, totaled 213.5 team points to finished 93 points ahead of second place Augustana. The Vikings had 120.5 points while MSU Moorhead was third with 80 points.
Augustana’s Tyl Woelber was the NSIC high point performer as he scored 34 points after winning the heptathlon, was second in the triple and long jumps, tied for fourth in the high jump, and was sixth in the 60m hurdles. He set a NSIC record with his 5357 points in the heptathlon as he surpassed the 2013 record of 5276 posted by MSU’s Nathank Hancock.
In all, three NSIC records were broken as Augustana’s Austin Miller ran an NSIC record time of 1:51.78 in the 800m run to break the 2017 mark 1:52.78 ran by Augie’s Josh Barrows.
The lone record to fall on Friday was in the DMR. Sioux Falls ran a NSIC record time of 10:04.89, which bested their mark from a year ago of 10:06.50. The team consisted of Billy Beseman, Jayden Slaba, Logan Hansen and Zach Lundberg and their time was a provisional mark.
The top three finishers in each event and the top two relay teams are named to the NSIC Indoor Track & Field All-Conference team. NSIC Indoor Track & Field Athletes and Coach of the Year will be announced next week at NorthernSun.org.
The NCAA National Championships will take place on March13-14 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. The field of student-athletes participating will be announced on Tuesday, March 3 at approximately 5 p.m.
