UMary wins its third straight NSIC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship

MANKATO, Minn. – The University of Mary won its third straight NSIC Indoor Track & Field Championship as the Marauders amassed 163 points to win by 19.33 point over Augustana. This marks the eighth indoor women’s championship for the Marauders.  Augie was second with 143.67 points while Minnesota State was third with 123  points.

UMary’s Ida Narbuvoll earned NSIC high point performer as she scored 30 points for the Marauders. Narbuvoll won the 3000m run, the 5000m run and the mile run. 
 
Five records were broken at the championships this year. As Narbuvoll set the NSIC record in the 3000m run with a time of 9:31.37 which eclipsed the 2017 time of  9:34.32 ran by UMary’s Alexis Zeis. 
Minnesota State’s Makayla Jackson re-broke the 60m dash as she ran an automatic qualifying time of 7.41 after running a 7.43 in the prelims on Friday. Her teammate Ja’Cey Simmons rebroke her own record as she ran a 24.47 in the 200m dash to eclipse her mark of 24.49 in the prelims.
 
Four of the records initially fell on Friday as Jackson won the long jump with a provisional leap of 19-8.5 (6.01m). Jackson broke the NSIC record which was held by St. Cloud State’s Heather Miller (19-8.25 / 6.00m – 2010). Jackson also set the NSIC record in the prelims of the 60m dash as she ran a NCAA automatic qualifying time of 7.43.  That broke the 2010 record of MSU’s Brittany Henderson (7.50). Simmons set the NSIC record in the prelims of 200m dash with a  time of 24.49. That broke the previous mark of 24.51 that UMD’s Danielle Kohlwey ran in 2019. The Augustana DMR started the day off in record breaking fashion with a provisional time of 11:51.62, besting the 2017 UMD record of 12:01.42.   The record setting team consisted of Carly Rahn, Mariah Beckius, Emily Tromp and PJ English.
 
The top three finishers in each event and the top two relay teams are named to the NSIC Indoor Track & Field All-Conference team. NSIC Indoor Track & Field Athletes and Coach of the Year will be announced next week at NorthernSun.org.
 
The NCAA National Championships will take place on March13-14 at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama. The field of student-athletes participating will be announced on Tuesday, March 3 at approximately 5 p.m.
