NSIC North Division Player of the Week
#32 Austin Andrews (F, 6-6, 210, So., Eden Prairie, Minn. / Eden Prairie HS) - Minnesota Duluth
- Averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds and 2.3 assists in three wins last week
- Scored 32 points with ten boards in a 86-69 win over St. Cloud State
- Added 20 points and 14 rebounds in a 76-63 win at Northern Michigan.
- Shot 64.4% (29-of-45) from the field and added three steals
NSIC South Division Player of the Week
#20 Joe Smoldt (G, 6-0, 185, Gr., Reinbeck, Iowa / Gladbrook-Reinbeck HS) - Upper Iowa
- Averaged 19.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals in two wins
- Had a 29-point outburst as Upper Iowa upset No. 2 Truman State 103-77 at home
- Hit 7-of-10 from deep against the Bulldogs as UIU improved to 6-0 on the season
- Shot 44% (14-of-32) from the field for the week
Other Top Performances - North
#10 Kai Huntsberry (UMary) led the Marauders to back to back wins over Minot State on the road and Sioux Falls at the Microtel Thanksgiving Classic. He had 25 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks against the Beavers as UMary overcame a 17 point deficit. He scored 26 points with 3 rebounds and 7 assists against the Cougars. He closed the week with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals against Winona State, making 6-of-8 3-pointers. He made all 21 free throws on the week, including 11 against USF. He averaged 24.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 4.3 apg and 1.3 spg while shooting 51.2% (21-of-41) from the floor, 58.8% (10-of-17) behind the arc and 100% (21-of-21) at the line over three games.
Dane Zimmer (MSUM) averaged 18.0 points and 10.33 rebounds while shooting .821 percent (23-of-28) from the floor as the Dragons went 2-1 last week.
#1 Camron Dunfee (MINOT) turned in his second straight game with 18 points and hit four 3-pointers to lead the way for Minot State in its NSIC opener.
#23 Jordan Belka (NSU) helped lead NSU to 2-0 record in the Dacotah Bank Classic. He scored a tournament high 39 combined points and shot 50% from 3-point range and 51% from the field overall. Added 12 total rebounds.
Other Top Performances - South
#25 Tyler Riemersma (AUGIE) continued his double-double average with 14.7 points and 10.0 rebounds while the 13th ranked Vikings went 2-1. He continues his incredible efficiency of shooting 60.7 percent from the field. Of his 30 total rebounds, 11 were on the offensive end as he leads the NSIC in rebounds per game.
#13 Devonte Thedford (MSU) averaged a team-leading 15.0 points per game, while shooting 20-of-32 (.625) from the field. Averaged 3.0 rebounds 2.3 assists per game also. He scored a season-high 21 points against Concordia-St. Paul.
#23 Matt Cartwright (USF) averaged 19.3 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game as USF was 1-2 this week. He scored 19 points in a 70-69 loss to SMSU, 17 points in a loss to U-Mary in nonconference play and 22 points in a road nonconference win at MSU Moorhead. Cartwright, who has scored double-digits in seven straight games to open the season, now has 972 career points. He made 19-of-47 field goals for 40.4 percent, 13-of-30 from three for 43.3 percent and 7-of-11 free throws with six rebounds, two blocks and three steals.
#42 Jake Phipps (SMSU) helped SMSU in its lone game of the week earn a big NSIC opening victory at Sioux Falls last Tuesday. He tied a career-high with 22 points on 8 of 12 shooting, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range. He also grabbed six rebounds, registered two assists and had one blocked shot. He is averaging 17 ppg and 8.2 rpg, while shooting 62 percent from the field this season.
#32 Jordan Janssen (WSC) averaged 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in two games last week. He had 27 points in Saturday’s 76-72 home loss to Doane. He scored 14 points with nine rebounds in Tuesday’s 63-59 home win over #13 Augustana. For the week, he shot 53.8 percent (14-26) from the field and 76.5 percent (13-17) at the free throw line.
#5 Alec Rosner (WSU) continued his scoring streak for Winona State this past week, shooting well from all parts of the floor in three games for the Warriors. - Averaged 18.7 ppg, scoring 56 points total. - Was 50% from behind the arc, including a 4-for-4 effort vs. MSU-Moorhead - Hit 23 of his 41 attempts and was 4-of-6 from the foul line - Averaged 32.6 minutes per game
