BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Commissioner Erin Lind is pleased to announce Matt Tiano as the supervisor of soccer officials.  Tiano will officially take over the role for the 2022 season after serving as the interim for the 2021 season.

“We are excited to have Matt take over the role of NSIC Supervisor of Soccer Officials. After working with Matt this past season, it was clear that he possesses all the attributes that the role requires. We look forward to him continuing to raise the bar for NSIC Soccer Officials,” stated Lind.

An NCAA soccer official for the last 16 years, Tiano has served as the Coordinator of Soccer Officials for the American Rivers Conference since 2014 and for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) since 2019.

“The NSIC has a history of soccer excellence, and I couldn’t be more excited to be involved with this conference,” Tiano said of his appointment. “I am deeply committed to continuing to improve the quality of officiating in the Upper Midwest through routine education, recruitment of new officials, and dialogue with coaches and administrators.”

Tiano brings a wealth of experience, having officiated collegiately at the Division I, II, and III levels. Currently, he is on the active roster of officials for the Big 10, Summit League, Missouri Valley, Horizon League and Western Athletic Conference (WAC). He has worked numerous conference championships and NCAA Championships, including the 2016 Division III Men's Final Four. He previously served on the Board of Directors for the Minnesota Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association (MISOA) where he oversaw video education for referees and coaches, as well as assisting in the assignment process for local contests. Tiano also currently oversees the assignment process for the Twin Cities' largest youth soccer clubs.
