AUSTIN, Texas --- Minnesota State junior forward Jenny Vetter has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team for her efforts on the field and in the classroom during this past season with the Mavericks, as announced by officials Thursday.
A Mankato, Minn., native, Vetter was among the best in the NSIC this season when it came to scoring in clutch moments by scoring seven game-winning goals (2nd in NCAA DII). Vetter now has 19 game-winning goals during her time at MSU, which moved her into a first-place tie with Korey Kronforst (2012-15) on the Mavericks' all-time game-winning goals list. In 23 matches this season, Vetter scored 19 goals, which paced the NSIC (6th in NCAA DII), and assisted on four others for a total of 42 points, which also led the conference (6th in NCAA DII). Vetter also led the NSIC in goals per game (0.83 - 15th in NCAA DII) and points per game (1.83 - 18th in NCAA DII). In terms of all-time scoring at MSU, Vetter moved up the ranks to fourth with 45 goals at MSU. Now with 104 points in her career, Vetter is tied for fifth with Amanda Burrows (1999-01) on the Mavericks' all-time points list. Also a prolific shooter, Vetter now stands third all-time in program history with 282 career shots after taking 86 this season and landing 46 of them on goal. A vital part of the Mavericks' offensive prowess, Vetter played and started in all 23 matches for MSU this season and logged 1,523 minutes of action along the way, which ranked fifth on the Mavericks' roster. Vetter is majoring in Biology and has maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA during the entirety on her collegiate career. Along with being selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-American First Team, Vetter has also been named to the D2CCA All-American Second Team, USC All-American Third Team as well as the NSIC All-Tournament Team and the All-NSIC First Team. She was also crowned with the NSIC Offensive Player of the Year award for the second time in her career.
This is the 16th time that a Maverick soccer player has garnered a CoSIDA Academic All-American honors. In addition, 10 different Maverick soccer players have collected the honor in the program's 26-season history. Also, Vetter is the first Maverick women's student-athlete to accomplish the feat three times and the second Maverick in school history alongside Jason Krug (Men's Hockey in 1996, 1997 & 1998).
In 2021, the Mavericks (18-3-2, 12-1-2 NSIC) won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament Championship for the fifth consecutive season to collect an automatic qualifier into the NCAA Tournament. As a result, the Mavericks made their 10th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and their 15th overall, before concluding the season with a loss in the regional semifinal game to #11 Central Missouri, 4-3, in Warrensburg, Mo.
