Bemidji State takes lead at NSIC Men's Golf Championship after round two

Kansas City, Mo. – Bemidji State shot a second round 286 to move into first place at the NSIC Men’s Golf Championship played at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City, Missouri.  The Beavers sit at 591 and hold a four stroke lead over Winona State and Sioux Falls.  The Beavers have two of the top three golfers after 36-holes of the 54-hole championship. 

BSU's Chris Swenson took over the lead in round two after his round of 69 on Saturday. After an opening round 72 he sits at 141, 1-under-par for the championship.  Swenson had six birdies in the second round.  Sioux Falls' Gavin Metz shot a tournament low round of 68 in the second round to sit at 143 for the championship, 1-over-par.  Metz was consistent all day as he used four birdies and 13 pars to finish three under par for the round.

The final 18-holes of the NSIC Championship will begin on Sunday morning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.  The top five golfers will be named NSIC All-Tournament, while the team champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional, which will be played at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City, Missouri hosted by William Jewell College and the Kansas City Sports Commission on May 6-8. The NCAA Championships will be played May 17-21 at the PGA National Resort, The Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida with Palm Beach Atlantic University and Palm Beach County Sports Commission serving as hosts.
