Winona State wins second straight NSIC Men's Golf Championship

Kansas City, Mo. – Winona State rallied in round three to edge Bemidji State by one stroke and win its second straight NSIC Men's Golf Championship.  The Warriors, which shot rounds of 301-294-288=883 (+31) to earn their 15th NSIC Men's Golf Championship, had three golfers finish in the top 11.
With the win, the Warriors earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional, which will be played at Shoal Creek Golf Club in Kansas City, Missouri hosted by William Jewell College and the Kansas City Sports Commission on May 6-8. 

Bemidji State’s Chris Swenson earned medalist honors as he finished at three-under-par as he shot rounds of 72-69-69=210. He finished two strokes ahead of Upper Iowa’s Logan Schweinefus (76-70-66=212) and six strokes ahead of Sioux Falls’ Gavin Metz (75-68-73=216). Schweinefus shot a tournament low round 66 on the final day to move up three spots.  

Swenson becomes the 16th Beaver to earn NSIC Medalist honors, and the first since Mitch Mackedanz in 2008-09.

Joining Swenson, Schweinefus and Metz on the NSIC All-Tournament Team were Augustana’s Jacob Lee (70-76-72-218), Minnesota State’s Hunter Rebrovich (72-73-73=218) and Winona State’s Matthew Chandler (74-74-70=218).

The NCAA Men's Golf Championships will be played May 17-21 at the PGA National Resort, The Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida with Palm Beach Atlantic University and Palm Beach County Sports Commission serving as hosts.
