AUGUSTANA UNIVERSITY

The Augustana women’s golf team is coming off its 10th NSIC Championship in the 2021 season and returns all three First Team All-NSIC selections from that squad in Molly Stevens, Natalie Young and Lauren Tims. In fact, of the nine student-athlete roster from the 2021 season, AU returns eight members while adding three addition team members to the mix for 2021-22.

Coralee Jorgenson will be entering her second season as the Vikings’ head coach. In her first season at the helm, she led the Vikings to an NSIC Championship and was named the NSIC Coach of the Year. Under her tutelage, AU claimed a pair of runner-up finishes along with the NSIC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Super Regional.
Augustana begins the 2021-22 season Sept. 13-14 at Bemidji State’s Tracy Lane Invitational. The annual Augustana Invitational is set to take place Oct. 2-3 at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls.

WINONA STATE UNIVERSITY

Winona State University will head into the 2021-21 women’s golf season under different, but familiar, leadership at the forefront.
Director of golf and head men’s team coach Jeff Straight will lead the women’s program as well in 2021-22, taking over for Tiffanie Yabut, who recently was named the head women’s golf coach at California State – Bakersfield. Straight has served as the director for both golf programs for the past several years and is familiar with the squad he inherits.
Straight will lean on WSU’s Golfer to Watch, Jessica Smith as the Warriors head into the fall. Smith’s already impressive resume include earning the 2021 NSIC Elite 18 Award at the most recent NSIC women’s golf championship this past spring.  Smith not only owned impressive GPA numbers, as she carded some strong digits on the golf course.  The Lakeville, Minn. product let her team in top-20 finishes last year and has spent the summer of 2021 fine-tuning her game.  Smith looks to a part of an 11-person roster that will compete week in and week out for the opportunity to represent the Warriors on courses around the Midwest.
In particular, the WSU junior class of Grace Van Hyfte, Tony Baldwin and Rachel Henderson brings a wealth of experience, and should push seniors Ally Loiselle and Alexis Bell in practice rounds. Winona State also welcomes some top talent in the form of freshmen Ellie Behring, one of the top scholastic golfers in Wisconsin last year.

The Warriors look to improve on their 5th place finish in the NSIC last season, with all 11 players from last years squad returning. Seniors Ally Loiselle and Alexis Bell have a great deal of tournament experience. Along with Jessica Smith, Grace Van Hyfte, Tony Baldwin and Rachel Henderson are all familiar faces in the Warriors starting line up last season. The Warriors also added incoming freshmen Ellie Behring, who was one of the top ranked players in Wisconsin to this seasons squad.

She has been working hard on her game this summer, paying in a lot of tournaments and is poised to have a great upcoming season.
