NSIC Elite 18 Award

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. - Winona State's Matt Turner earned the NSIC Elite 18 Award for men's golf as he held the highest grade point average of the participating members of  the 10 men's golf playing schools. Turner was presented the award during the pre-championship meeting Wednesday night.  The NSIC Men's Golf Championship runs Thursday-Saturday, April 14-16 at Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Missouri.  

As part of the NSIC 25th Anniversary celebration during the 2016-17 academic year, the NSIC Elite 18 Award was instituted to recognize the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the NSIC Championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The NSIC Elite 18 award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NSIC’s 18 Championships.

Turner, a native of Goodview, Minnesota and graduate of Winona High School, is a junior and holds a 4.00 grade point average while majoring in accounting. He is a NSIC All-Academic Team of Excellence member and helped the Warriors to the NSIC Championship a year ago.  He tied for 23rd place at the 2020-21 NSIC Championships after rounds of 79-75-76 to finish at 17-over-par.  This season, Turner has played 19 rounds and holds a 76.1 stroke average. His low round was 70 and holds one top-10 and one top-5 finish.
